Ya….thats all I ever use is the nickel based anti seize. Copper based is messy. Got it right next to me here at work.

@tacotunner06 are you still using the brushed spal fans that came with your Ron Davis? I just picked up a new set from them, $600 later, and I guess spal now makes brushless ones. I wonder if they’re any different than the Steele brushless. They offer 500 more CFM than the brushed version each, which I think would be beneficial, but they’re not as simple to wire up at all. They have their own proprietary sensors and harnesses and stuff for them. Brushed is 0 risk and it will just work if you jam power into it, but I feel like every CFM of air matters at this point.

yeah, still running the brushed, yeah there’s a way to bypass having to use spal’s stuff but you gotta figure out what pwm signal they use than figure out if your Holley can just replicate the same signal directly to the fan. I’ve read into it enough to know I can get my haltech to do it if I want but haven’t looked further since I haven’t had a problem with the brushed fans.

For starters, this looks way better. I was able to flip the condenser brackets around and the clearance is right between the coolant tubes, but there’s clearance. Got the rad mounted and fans wired, tested them and they work! The first fans turns on at 185, and immediately cools the truck down 179 and turns back off. Cycles on and off every 2 minutes or so. Stays so cool the Second fan doesn’t even cycle on.

    Fan 1 on @ 185
    Fan 1 off @ 180
    Fan 2 on @ 188
    Fan 2 off @ 180

I might lower all of these by 5* since I have a 170* thermostat in the motor. Might as well keep the temps lower if I can manage.

I’m waiting on some Deutsch DTP connectors to come in tomorrow so I can replace the jank, very not ip68 white connectors, and then I’ll cable manager everything and get all the bed gear put back in. Also waiting on some regular 6 pin deutsch to get here for the new AC controller. Will be plug and play inside the truck. I’d rather wait 1 more day without ac. But it’s going to be 114 tomorrow here, so this MF will stay parked until the AC is running cold. Fingers crossed this is it for a while…

Cab does need to be wateproofed tho.

Hopefully it works better while driving! Did you put any holes in the bed to pull air through?

Progress is progress! This is lightyears better than "F this truck, I'm through with it," and we're all much happier to see the build continue after all you've put into it.

No I didnt. I was thinking, if there are holes in the bed, the fast air moving underneath the truck will create a vacuum and the Venturi effect would be pulling air out of the bed instead of letting air flow into it. There is a ton of space to the sides of the rad, and above the bed cage and to the sides of it etc. worst case I can drill some from the bottom.

AC controller is assembled. Once it’s no longer 117 out I’ll head over to the truck and get it installed, and the new connectors for the fans installed, and the bed stuff put back in.

#1 pet peeve of any AZ native. 3 different times yesterday I had to go inside and strip and lay down on the cool tile to get my body temp under control. When your extremities start tingling and your eyes feel like they’re about to pop out of your head, you know it’s hot outside.

Today I’m stuck inside with a fat migraine. Head has been pounding non stop since I woke up because of yesterday.

Everyone shits on the temp in AZ because we don’t have humidity, but it’s no joke.

Dayum. Pushed yourself hard today, regardless of the relativity of your locale. Be safe. Add some mineral salt (Celtic salts) to your waters.

Haha yeah I grew up in Houston so play the humidity / heat card too much -- but I was in AZ a few years ago and it was 117 outside -- that was a whole different ballgame. I now live at 9k feet in CO ... I always get "be careful - don't bike/run too hard b/c the altitude" -- I tell them to go down to Houston and jog. I could do CO all day -- hard to break a sweat up here.

Ok so got all the new fan connectors on and the new ac controller wired in. Still no AC. Compressor isn’t even trying to turn on. Guess I need to break out the oscilloscope and make sure my waveforms are being output.

Also, now that I’ve swapped the fan shroud to the other side, my 454 tire cage doesn’t fit in the truck anymore. I need to move the rear mounts and pins back about half an inch. Should still be plenty of engagement under the front to hold it down. Just another thing to do.
