Then there are those of us who enjoy what we do and are well compensated for our efforts. If I was to retire and then want to work at some point, I seriously doubt I'd find something as enjoyable, and even if I did, it would pay just a fraction of my current income, so yeah, I'll keep working until I'm in my early- to mid-70s.

this was a small part of my decision to retire

you sir are blessed, but I couldnt keep up with all the rapid changes in the industry, and more importantly, the total change in the clientele and their unreasonable demands after 42 years

Ya know... there's a saying that, "I've been rich, and I've been poor... and I'd rather be rich."

I think the same thing goes for retirement. "I've had great jobs, and I've had no job... and I'd rather be retired."

Thanks fellas, yes I will retire the end of this month. The plan is to take some time off, find a part time gig doing something different 2 to 3 days a week, work in my wood shop more and sell some stuff out there, and get more involved in my church. It's time for me to get out of this big truck, it gets more dangerous everyday. My boss sucks and treats most of us quite poorly so no love lost there. I'm just riding my time out. I'll give notice next Thursday, if they walk me out I'm OK with that too. I'm not going to die working just for money, I want to enjoy life, time with my wife, and ride my motorcycles. Live life a bit.

    Afternoon all:

The oil tank is full! :)
One of the main things he looked at was the legs supporting the tank, and that they weren't rusted to the point that the tank could collapse when filled. He said the vent pipe doesn't meet current code and should be larger, but that was still OK for him to deliver, also they will replace the top short screw in section of the fill pipe with one equipped with a screw on adapter that couples to the fuel hose instead of the rubber V push against type that's common, that will be done the next time I order oil and its free.
He also looked at a plug on the top of the tank to make sure it was there, he said that on a connected double tank fill that plug was missing on the first tank and fuel oil ended up all over the basement due to that plug being removed, guess they have their reasons for checking out the tank.

I retired early for three reasons: 1) Because I could and 2) Death: Some co-workers 3 from cancer and 3) deaths in the immediate family.
You may have money, but you'll never have more time.

They called me back part-time for three years - 20 + hours on my schedule. May do the same to you ....

Retiring doesn't mean life stops - it changes, it reorients, you get new dreams !
    Your time will fill up.
Take care of your spouse and make the coffee. Learn to make pancakes.
Volunteer maint crew for your church, Maint your house finally, Pick up playing the guitar, Learn to cook really well using that Croc-Pot, Fix up that project 1971 VW Bug, join an astronomy club become an amateur astronomer, camp out in the middle of no-where and observe the stars.

Get up early, 5:00 AM, try to walk 3 miles every other day. Get the outside work done early - avoid the heat. (Tomorrow suppose to be cooler - 108F.)
Yell at the TV sometimes and howl at the full moon - then go to bed .... yes and pay your taxes ....

Dream ! In my 2021 Tacoma, I'm planning on driving/beach camping going south to do the length of Baja California, Mexico this late fall/early winter 2025/26 for 3 weeks. Listen to the waves slap on the beach sand. I'll perfect my Fish tacos and Ceviche recipes ... Finally read "The old man and the sea" ...

    I will post photos !

You know, these things sound mundane, but you may find these are the happiest years of your life.
    You'll do OK.

    Evening all:

That's some serious off roading there David!
Wish the road that we used to access a hunting spot was still passable, short, but would have made for some good pictures.
Maybe should have second thoughts on that, would hate to mess up the Tacoma! :(
