Speaking of cables, it looks like these happen to come with wire included. But, if theres issues or if I end up with a different setup, are these inputs just regular old speaker wire with banana plugs attached?
Also, whats the deal with a bunch of speakers having 2 sets of inputs right on top of eachother

    @time623

To throw a wrench in your whole thought process, if you find yourself more often sitting at your computer or something than your TV (for movies), you might find it better to treat yourself to some nice headphones.

I was big into audio for many years, and as much as I'd love a dedicated 2 channel setup and HT setup, I'm being realistic with myself knowing that I don't spend much time at all in front of a TV.

Right now I am with PS5 (and shortly after, Xbox) but those don't warrant an HT setup. So I opted to replace my headphones a few months ago and it's been a real treat.

I made a nice living in that business in the 70s when everybody was getting their first component system. Naturally, the professional clientele had to outdo each other with the biggest and most powerful system.

In today's money a complete system ranged from $15,000 to $25,000 dollars.

I remember a guy came in the store and said he wanted a BIG system for parties. He said "I want a lot of WATS and all of the KNOBS." Hell yeah! Actually, the SX1250 was hard to sell once someone figured out speaker efficiency.

Life was simple when people spent their money on a Cutlass Supreme Brougham and a BIG sound system.

    upload_2025-7-9_12-20-43.png

Then I would get questioned and had to explain why that tweeter radiator didn't spin that the speakers they saw the band using at the club last weekend. Those would be a Leslie.

Those look like 5-way binding posts that can accept spades, bare wire, and even banana plugs depending on your speaker wire type.

When you see two sets of positives/negatives, it means the speaker supports being bi-amped.

This means in most cases that the mid-range driver and tweeter are paired as "one channel" with the bass driver being it's own channel. The built-in crossover will ensure the bass driver doesn't play full-range sound and people will use their dedicated 7-channel amp to run a 5-channel setup with the fronts each receiving 2 channels of amplification.

More clean, high-current power the speakers receive, the better they'll sound. It'll sound like a big difference really at higher volumes even.

I thought my parents were weird when they rejected automatic transmissions and held on to their 58 Fairlane 500 Interceptor with a 352. They liked the sound of that 300 hp rapping out in 2nd gear. I hadn't figured out that it was a sleeper car of the time.

Ok good to know, looks like the AVR has (less fancy) 5-way binding posts as well
Last group of questions to bug you with, this is the outputs on my avr
    upload_2025-7-9_10-36-20.png
So the SW preouts, are those just regular old Aux?
Looks like the surrounds can be Bi-amp, so like you were saying with the 7-channel to 5-channel, I could theoretically use this 5-channel amp as a 3-channel with the fronts receiving 2 channels each?
And Speaker B, is that just for running 2-channel specifically? Or could I throw a couple speakers somewhere random and control them using this avr independently of the primary living room HT setup?

Subwoofer pre-out is a dedicated channel for your subwoofer's input.

Your AVR will allow you to tailor your subwoofer to better implement it with your speakers outside of whatever knobs or adjustments the subwoofer has. A real important one is phase, because an out of phase subwoofer will cancel out bass frequencies produced by your fronts/center.

As for the bi-amp thing, just don't bother. Not with an AVR.

If your Mythos speakers do have the ability to bi-amp, you could look into your AVR's manual and see how to properly wire/set that up but I would skip it in general.

You'll want to make sure you have the "plates" that connect the two positives and two negatives on the speakers themselves.

Sometimes people lose those, or most times they'll be dirty. Deoxit is great for cleaning such contacts.

Edit: To add to the Speaker B part, yeah nicer AVR's will allow for separate room listening

I'd still encourage to ask away if it helps - it's the LT where we talk about mostly anything anyway

Even bromances where the other won't always reciprocate :pout:

@Kwikvette Sounded like you're a klipsch fan? Seems like they're pretty polarizing across the audio scene

They're the only real 'respectable big box' brand speakers outside of Polk.

Thing is, Klipsch are really efficient so they don't need much power to make them sound alive. I've helped many set up their HT setups and many used Klipsch speakers.

A lot of their systems have horn tweeters which like I said earlier, sound overly bright.

Using something like a Denon or certain Onkyo receivers help to tame that brightness as their DAC's are much warmer sounding.

Marantz is another good one but I don't know if they have much in the modern category. Maybe they still do?

Just make sure to not focus too much on certain details I share - it's just me sharing shit I've learned over the years with experience.

I say this because I have a different reference for good sound than you do. What sounds "ok" to me might sound "amazing" to you and many others.

Trying not to let you go down the rabbit hole lol so trying to keep things fairly 'generic' when I mention certain pairings.
