fish passage work along the northern border with the Quinault “Until early winter” they say. 6 separate culverts. They did 3 near Humptulips last year. Ok before the sun came up. Real bummer with traffic. I hunt the Matheny and Colonel Bob wilderness on that side.

I’ve got nothing to complain about compared to bottom land Texas just now!

Sounds like we're gonna be sharing the same boat, because I've gone the exact same direction, minus the barrel/trigger. I opted for the gen 3 PRS though instead of the lite; I may or may not change that in the future. I figure its gonna be heavy as is, whats a few more ounces/lbs :anonymous:

I'm blessed; this is a place out in the country, no harm no foul. The work will begin once it dries out. No complaining here either, I have no worries compared to thousands of others.

Yes, we are blessed with some of the best whitetail hunting in the country. Unfortunately, we also have a lot of outfitters which puts a lot of extra pressure on our deer.

Yeah I figured. We have decent genetics here in West Michigan but I think most bucks that size would be very old and very few and far between.

Hope you can get a crack at him come November (or sooner).

Our main goal is to harvest bucks that are 5 years or older and 160 inches or bigger. This is my buck from last season, he scored 168 and 6/8.Resized_20250506_171325.jpg FullSizeRender.jpg

Dang, yeah that is a beauty. So how do you let them get that old without having a massive overpopulation of deer? Not trying to debate, just curious about herd management in your neck of the woods.

There’s no lack of permits in Illinois, residents or non-residents, you can kill as many as you want as long as you buy the permits. The only heard management we have through the IDNR is a 2 buck limit. Part of our personal management plan includes shooting doe’s too. We do have some overpopulation in areas that are heavily outfitted. It also helps if you can get your neighbors to pass on 2-4 year old bucks but not many are willing to do so.

Okay, so it sounds exactly like Michigan, minus maybe the superior genetics. Two bucks, basically unlimited does now, plus a three and a half month season if you do archery of some sort.

Only tricky part is getting your neighbors to not shoot little bucks. Once they get to that two-and-a-half year old 8pt+, I feel like everyone is taking a shot. Cheers!

My daughter just sent me this pic this morning. East side of Pittsburgh suburb and in neighbor's yard. None have jumped her 6' fence yet.

The back one is a nice one!!!!

I really cant tell how much of deer population there is here at my place. Most ive seen on gsme camera is 5 or 6 doe. Down the road one guy that leases a big property shoots anything including button bucks. So prob does affect my property. I still get stuff coming in though
