    Hey guys,

wondering if anyone has any experience with purchasing a replacement socket for license plate bulbs. Been searching the web and did a search in this forum but can’t seem to find the exact part that fits the 3rd gen. The socket was pretty corroded and definitely needs to be replaced. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Junkyard is ur best option. The most voiced complaint about LED lights is that they are too bright and can white out the back up camera.

That's probably true. My backup camera is useless as it's covered by a tire.

If it's only 1 I'd be temped to cut it off, seal end with electrical tape or a plastic plug and zip tie it underneath. Leave the cover on the bumper. That's if the other one is ok.

These still use the OEM socket. There's a "fake bulb" that plugs into the OEM socket.

The OEM lamp housing is just a hollow plastic shell, nothing to corrode.

Would that not still solve OP's issue?

edit: wait, I get it. Probably not. I did not think about this.

Thanks for all the input guys. What do you guys think about just crimp and heat wrap one of those led kit like the Morimodo posted above. I tried some rubbing alcohol and dialectic on the socket but still can’t get the new bulb to light up. At this point I’d rather just wire myself than try to find the right socket replacement.

unfortunately will not due to the socket corrosion. But I am probably just going to hard wire it. I don’t have that exact model but a pair of similar looking ones

Toyota only sells the socket together with the lamp housing for ~$20 as PN 812700C040

I am not sure this will solve your issue though. I don't know if the pins are part of the socket or separately crimped to the wiring.

that picture itself would be exactly what I need but the link provided looks like just the housing for socket and bulb. If you have a link for something like the picture on your post I would be more than happy to check it out

You can also get a white LED strip from Amz and attach with 3M molding tape to bottom of tailgate aiming down. Crimp or solder/heat shrink to the OEM wiring.

The Morimoto lights need the OEM socket to seal the lamp housing.

    This and that
I ripped one of my license plate license apart a while back playing with my rear bumper. The pigtail and build assembly were crunched apart. Rear bumper was unexpected jigsaw puzzle. Had to order the whole assembly cuz that’s how they come.
