Mirror cap

Hey guys - I got fed up not being able to purchase these side mirror under caps without the whole mirror assembly after I lost my passenger side cap to a tree while wheeling. I searched and searched on forums like these and found nothing.

Same issue here on passenger side. Other option is to buy new mirror from Rockauto for like $50, and swap your mirror shell over to it.

Unfortunately I bought his already and that's how I found out they make two different tacoma mirror sizes. He doesn't make ones for TRD models. He did give good customer services though and gave me a complete refund.

 

That's super strange. I got a whole used mirror assembly off my local craigslist that came off an SR5. Popped that off and it fit right onto my TRD Off-Road. I could see the top caps being different for ones with marker lights but not the bottoms. What's the length of that space?

Yeah that looks like the same size as mine. The piece he sent was

Maybe it was just the 22' models then ‍♂️ but yeah the one he sent has about a half inch gap on the back side of the mirror. The front side matches up.

 

I'm almost wondering if he made a mistake then, ha. Just curious, did they offer to send a replacement? More to check than anything.

 

I really can't see Toyota making different hinges for basically the same mirrors.

I don't know what made me think of this. But was the mirror you measured a driver side mirror cap? Maybe that's what they mean by two different mirror sizes. I bet the passenger side is a bit wider due to trying to reduce blindspot? Just a hunch

 

It is the driver's side. I just measure the passenger and it's close to 4.4 in. That's a loose measurement at the widest point.

So you may be onto something. Still odd though. But then again, these trucks have different sized sway bars too, ha.

 

Yeah after looking at the puddle light mod for this piece I could tell the passenger side was a bit wider. So im sure the people that 3d print just assume that they are the same size and flip their program for the driver side causing it to not fit. Hopefully I can find a replacement soon or just buy a knockoff and take the part off it.

 

I'm seeing the same. I never would have guessed it. I would have hoped the 3D printing people would have known too. Has no one else noticed? Ha
