Did your truck fall with in the transmission TSB fot the torque converter? I doubt if every truck in the TSB range needed anything beyond the inspection to give the all clear. I don't recall hearing you say anything about the TSB. Spirted driving and the upsize tires probably give enough throttle response to improve shift points. All speculation on my part.

My truck is a 1/24 build so it falls under the TSB list. I complained about it during the first service and they said they reset the adaptives or something like that? I range in driving like an old man to Richard Petty so who knows. My tires arent really upsized, just the stock size for an Offroad. I guess compared to the stock SR5 size it is, but nothing extreme.

I’ve got no issues with the 8AT in my 24. Mine falls within the VIN range for the recall but I’ve had zero issues and am now at 13k miles. I recently had the OTT tune, Stage 1, Enhanced and it’s even smoother than before with better shifting.

My '24 OR with 4K miles shifts smoothly, cold in the morning and warmed up. In stop-n-go traffic same thing. If anything, I never liked the way my 2014 V6 4.0 shifted.

When my 2017 DC OR LB was brand new, the transmission clunked when shifting into Reverse and then shifting into Drive.

After a few weeks or so, I checked the transmission fluid level and added just under a quart. I think it was 28 ounces.
After adding the fluid, there was no more clunking when shifting between Park, Reverse and Drive.

At 30,000 miles it was still shifting smoothly when I did the first drain and fills.

That transmission did like to hunt, especially when driving or towing over steep mountains.

    It happens.

My 2025 Taco transmission has been nice and smooth from day 1.

My brand new 2017 OR DC LB clunked when shifting between P, R and Drive. After adding less than a quart of fluid, it was smooth, with no more clunking when shifting from Park, R and D.

I checked the transmission fluid level on the 2025 Tacoma right after purchasing it. The transmission fluid was low by about 24 ounces.

The 2025 Tacoma rear differential was also close to 1 quart low. The front dif was a few ounces low.

The transfer case was full. That was a surprise.

I want to check the trans fluid on my 24. The service manual says to pin the thermostat like for the 3rd gen. Where the hell is the thermostat on the 4th gen? I looked over the entire cooling system and can’t find one anywhere. Apparently the 4th gen has an electronic “water control valve”. All I have are two lines running from the trans straight to the radiator.

That's really weird that you found both trucks to be so low on ATF.

You 100% sure that you followed protocol for checking ATF?

I used to work in the automotive biz. We had metered fluid nozzles, they would put in the exact amount of fluid every time. I find it odd that one of your trucks was 28 oz and the other 24 oz underfilled.....

Beyond the point of the transmissions temperature, over and over I keep wondering if people with this complaint haven't experienced other modern 8-10 speed transmissions or drive light trucks like they're sports cars with dual clutch transmissions designed for sports cars.

When I had my first service, and when I was at dealer about scheduling brake recall, dealer staff commented that lots of people who've got latest Tacomas, Land Cruisers, the first new gen 4Runners they delivered and late model Tacomas seem to expect them to be like earlier generation transmissions which they are not. One person joked the complainers don't know what it's like at their GM and Ford franchises re transmissions. One also said it seemed a lot of the new generation complaining was coming from people who did modifications or who had evidence of driving like jerks. I don't know how they'd conclude the latter point but suppose they can see MPH, brake wear or maybe diagnostics scan info.

In my case nothing stands out as unusual except I know it's smoother when warmed up. That's just like other vehicles. The lower gears behavior seems a lot like others with 8-10 speeds. My pickup for sure gets worked as alight truck but I don't race to stop lights and a lot of my acceleration is from resume button for adaptive cruise.

I do not notice this transmission issue on my example of a 2024 iForceMax hybrid OR. The electric side is a lot more dominant in stop and go, at least running in normal mode. I am curious about transmission programming differences among the different models.

A cousin has same powertrain in Land Cruiser. IMO it behaves pretty much like the non-turbo. His joke on these comes from he had a Jeep and Audi, and anyone unhappy with their latest generation Toyotas just needs to own one of those for a year.

Almost a year on mine. I still have to fixate on the tach to know if it is shifting.

So glad to be rid of the mistaken gen where the head snap back and forth because of that disaster of a powertrain attracted attention of the dudes that look like ladies.

wtf I see posts like this and then I thing there has to be something wrong with my transmission. But then I test drive other 4th gen tacomas and they all feel similarly clunk
