gotta love when you cheak the weather so many times last night and this morning and it shows clear with a 15% chance of rain so you decide to ride in!

and half way in you see clouds... the storm clouds and lighting oh what fun haha. gf made it to work before the rain started and i got to work a few mins before it started as well lol.

You now have nice water tight saddlebags. Buy some rain gear and keep it with you.

Riding in rain when it's decently warm or even hot out can actually be kind of fun.

My dad has one of these, super helpful and not distracting at all. I really liked using it when I borrowed his bike.

Got a pair of Rev'it Offtrack H2O pants delivered last night.
No comparison to Amazon off-brands. These actually fit.
I think the off brands cater to a larger variety of ass, waist and leg sizes, and one size does not fit all.
I'm around 15lbs heavier with the jacket and pants now.
    Bring on the rain.

Ok, are tubeless plug kits fairly universal, or is there one brand or type that stands out?

They're all similar but some use a slightly different approach. Most use some version of a "sticky string" and require you to ream out the hole slightly first and use a rubber cement with the string for best adhesion. I've used these with mixed success but that may have been user error. I carry a Dyna Plug kit now. It still uses a variant of sticky string but they have a brass tip that removes the need to ream out the hole first. I think they're a little easier to use and it's one less tool in my kit not carrying a reamer.

    https://shop.dynaplug.com/collections/motorcycle-atv

One thing to keep in mind no matter which route you go. The sticky strings have a shelf life and if stored like mine, under the seat of the bike, should be replaced every couple of years for best results, I buy new plugs and swap them out every 2 years.

Of course Fortnine has a video on that

That being said, I bought this guy because compact, aluminum case, easily stored, and cheap:

I told myself when I bought it I'd add in cement, but I still haven't...

Good to know about expiration time and the ease of use. This prevents me getting a kit with 25 plugs that hopefully go unused.

And this shed some light on the mushroom plug that seemed like a good idea on paper.
Seen the video before but forgot about it. I like the idea of being small and self contained.

If your budget is tight I've actually used Frogg Toggs from Bass Pro my first few years of doing rallies. The only negative I found with them is mine would only last a couple of seasons before wear and tear took its toll and they needed replace. Now I carry some Rev It stuff that I found on close out. Similar to these but when I got mine I think they were $39.99? I have a matching jacket that was given to me by a former coworker who quit riding for medical reasons.

One thing I strongly recommend with rain gear, but a bright color! We're already at risk of not being seen and more so in the rain. Black rain gear is one more excuse for the "I never saw him" crowd. Bright colors save lives far more often than loud pipes.

I'm really loving my Rev-It Tornado jacket. Has a removeable thermal liner, and a rain jacket (see 2nd pic).

    upload_2025-7-10_9-10-21.png

I've tried it on, but that's it. It fits over the jacket, or under it, and can also be worn separately.

It's not cheap, but it's also not crazy expensive like those $1200+ jackets. It's also AA rated with shoulder and elbow pads that are Level 2.

And now I'm looking at those pants @BkerChuck posted as a good option to go over my riding jeans.

I think all of my jackets came with rain liners but I still have a separate rain jacket I keep on the bike all the time. The Rev It stuff packs down really small and comes with a small stuff sack. I think my rain pants are roughly the size of a 16 oz. beer can packed and they fit easily over my jeans.

I also want to say you're absolutely right on bright colors. The Helite vests we have, we bought the Hi-Viz ones. Wife and I can see each other MUCH better if we get separated by a couple cars, so it obviously works on visibility. We feel much safer riding through treed areas with lots of shadows knowing we're far more visible with them than without. Obviously you don't need a helite vest for visibility, so any regular well fitting hi vis vest or BRIGHT jacket/pants would work.

We definitely care more about safety than looking cool.

That was actually why it took me so long to get a new helmet. Love the Shoei Neotec but the Neotec 2 and 3 were not offered in hi viz yellow like the original.

My Neotec 2 is black and the wife's is kinda a dark candy red. Definitely woulda preferred a better color, but it's what was available at the time we purchased in our sizes. And we did buy online, stock was just non-existent.
