The new Tacomas and 4Runners below the Limited trim have hard plastics on the top and side of the door panel and the glove box so just wondering if there is a way to replace those parts with soft touch materials?

Not sure if it would be Toyota parts or aftermarket or if you could just pull the plastics off and replace them so that's why I'm asking.

An upholstery shop can recover the panels for you.

So I don't have experience with that. Would an upholstery shop use parts that will be quality and last a long time?

So replace the entire door panel? However it says grey for the color rather than black for 67620? Could just do that for the driver's side door.

Limited gray is the "Graphite" interior. The upper sill at the window edge will be black softex, but the inset panel at the handle will be a grayish-ivory color. Looks like this:

I used to work in upholstery, and a good shop will have any type of material that you can imagine. A quarter inch of foam and some ultra-suede and you’ll have an amazing one-of-a-kind interior.

It's cool that you can upgrade the interior with OEM pieces and I know people like to customize. You could also get a GX 550 and not need to replace the interior of a new truck with more expensive parts that would have to be sourced new.

When I hear Toyota Tacoma I think cheap plastic interior, and that's what I like about the trucks to begin with.

I was looking at some interior pictures of a GX I noticed there wasn't any mechanical lock thing with the door handle. How do you do a lock out if there's no lock to release?

A really big issue with the GX550 SUV is that it doesn't offer an open 5 foot or 6'1" bed, which are available on the Tacoma pickup truck.

It's easy to add a little padding to the interior of the Tacoma pickup truck.

It's very difficult to add an open short or long bed to the GX550 SUV. ;-)

That's true, I think most people who would buy a new GX 550 could also afford a Tacoma SR or Frontier S if they also needed a truck bed. I know the idea here is to get some cushier arm rests and door panels. There's the Tundra Capstone if you want luxury and a cargo bed.

Luxury pick ups are a thing and people are still buying them. Lincoln attempted it twice with two different models first with the Lincoln Blackwood.
    https://www.motortrend.com/features/lincoln-blackwood-pickup-truck-vintage-classic
Lincoln also tried again with the Mark LT.
    https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a18199957/2007-lincoln-mark-lt-short-take-road-test/

Neither truck sold that well the Blackwood was completely impractical compared to a Navigator or any luxury pick up available in 2002. The Mark LT did have an open bed for cargo but didn't deliver anything other than less resale value for the money over a 2007 F-150.

I wonder how long it will take Toyota to drop the Capstone from the Tundra line up? When ever the refresh happens if not sooner is what I'm thinking.

I recently added a Muslogy center console armrest cover. I've emailed them to see if they would consider adding an armrest cover for the upper door armrests to their lineup. Perhaps if more people would suggest it to them, they might offer it. Also considering vinyl wrap for a few select pieces in the cabin like the door switches and long center molding on the dash to break things up a bit.
