From what i understand of Neurotoxic venom in most cases, you basically suffocate. Individual results may vary.

Interesting, but he doesn't advise 'WHY'.
That specimen was identified as a king snake, it was red-to-black... and harmless.

I still don't understand the 'why' behind his statement that the rhymes don't add-up in Arizona.

Regarding the neurotoxic venom, I'll pass on experiencing it as you say, individual results may vary, kinda like Your Mileage May Vary.

Meh, I thing there's only been one coral snake fatality in American history...

I’ve had numerous snakes climb up into the engine compartment, and all of them were fairly easy to remove without hurting them. But damn, try getting a coachwhip (red racer) out without getting repetitively bit by it, those guys are fast and very aggressive! I was driving a college van once with fellow students on a field trip and we stopped for one on a dirt road. The passengers wanted to see it so they got out and encircled it. I already was familiar with them having managed one before out of my own truck so I just stayed in the van. The snake got scarred and literally charged the circle of people while heading towards the van and the circle opened up allowing it to go underneath the van- I knew by then it was gone in the damn engine compartment and had to get bit a bunch of times again. Another time at work the same thing happened- my boss was screaming as she watched it go up into the work truck engine. It was funnier than heck as she was hugging another coworker and they were both screaming. Yeah, I removed that one and got bit also.

 

Except it's not. Vertical pupils just dictate what time of day they are more active generally. If this were true I guess I have 9 venomous snakes in my house.

The head shape can be a more valid thing to look at as the venom glands reside in the head giving that more arrow shape generally. But that is not a dead give away all the time.

If you were to compare say a copperhead or water moccasin to a water snake the round pupils vs vertical pupil principal does apply and head shape does apply.

But then go compare a green viper next to a boomslang those principles are bolth void. Yes in north America it's a bit more applicable but you cannot just blanket statement all vertical pupils are venomous.

 

The average person who does not handle them regularly and cannot identify them (the person who knows "red racer" is an exception) should give it room to just run away as it probably wants.

I heard the Africa has a venomous black-snake that will chase you aggressively, but I do not live in open-plains Africa so can only report what I heard.

 

my worst nightmare would be to have a snake, any kind of snake, crawl across my feet while I’m driving. Well, that and driving into a tornado to get to an English class that I haven’t been to and taking the final.

 

I don't handle venomous species as they are all illegal here. I also have a thing for spiders but guess what I can identify enough spiders to know what is going to cause an issue vs all the no concern species. If you know you l8ve in an area with potentially dangerous animals you should take some time to be able to identify what's safe and what's not.

 

The snake is the Black Mamba -I watched Kill Bill the other night. It is the most feared snake on the African continent, capable of chasing one down at up to 12 mph. It’s 10' long, and is capable biting a full grown man at the upper body area. ;-)

I don't know the "why" either, but RS are the experts in this field, not me. I've learned quite a bit about our snakes in this desert from them but i still have a hard time telling the difference between a Western Diamond back and a Mojave.

 

Yeah, a coral snake isn't gonna strike at your ankle and bite through a boot like a rattler would, you would actually need to handle them to get bit. Aside from being painful and the anti-venom being costly, odds of death are pretty low.

 

Dead giveaway ( no pun intended ) is the huge single scale over the eye.
While we don't wanna get bit by either, if given the choice, I'll take the Diamondback.
The Mohave venom can be a mixture of hemotoxic and neurotoxic properties.

 

Depending where you live, that snake might be allowed to stay. You're now a landlord
