I’ve see some people out in the country use the job box, old school truck bed tool box, or similar for deliveries.

Not quite that big. but you get the point.

Yeah but that'd require delivery drivers to lift a lid, they aren't going to do that

    100% truth!

I wear this daily at work. I stopped counting how many times I’ve been almost hit by a car. I have come to terms with it and just waiting for it to happen. Hell, even with all the strobe lights on the work truck and cones.. it doesn’t make a difference anymore. People just don’t give a shit. I have thought about getting one of those spinny lights for the rear of the truck. Boss man said no because the DOT would have a field day with me.

I will say this… I do believe that myself and others who wear this stuff (work wise) are more prone to see/look for it when driving, Than someone that does not use / works around it at all. just my opinion though.

Agreed, just like people who ride a bike are more likely to see them.

    I have one duck.. one.

I had seen a person attempting to put another duck on my jeep a few years ago.
    promptly asked them not to.
    they asked why.
I said, would you like it if I hit you jeep with a hammer?.
    they said hell no!
    ok then.

Yes, I could have approached it differently. but that was how the words flowed from my mouth that day.

I'd have to really think about that question. He's only on the bike if I'm using the trunk and we're traveling. Picture below.

I use him sometimes to help hold my rally flag as seen in the picture. He's definitely been around. Quick guess, seeing as he's now on his second FJR, I'd say in excess of 20k miles?

In that same train of thought.....A few years ago another long distance rider shared a little tip on FB or one of the forums and my g/f and I picked it up and have run with it. The rider said they picked up a bunch of inexpensive toy motorcycles and carry a couple with them in the tank bag at all times. When stuck in traffic, getting fuel, or pretty much anywhere you see a kid in a nearby car looking miserable and bored out of their skull, get the parent's permission and give the child a toy motorcycle to play with. First you just made a kid's day a little more pleasant. Second you likely made the parent's day a little easier as well. Most importantly that child will likely now be looking for and paying attention to motorcycles which hopefully makes their parent more aware as well.

With any luck that might stick with them. Dianne bought a whole case of like 60 on Amazon a couple of years ago for less than a buck a piece. We've got about half that case left and will be buying more when the time comes. I have a great memory from 2023 when I was out on a ride photographing murals for an event and I parked my bike in such a way that it was in the path of the entrance/exit. Family came out and the little boy was just bawling his eyes out, not having a good day. Dad says something to him about my bike to distract him form whatever the issue was and I, trying to be a good ambassador for motorcycles, spoke with the young boy as well. I then asked the parent's permission and gifted him a toy bike in the same color as my red FJR. The lad immediately got a huge smile and came over to hug me. His folks honestly could not stop thanking me for making his bad day better.

We have gotten so much out of doing this since we started. I can only hope the memories of this last as long for just one or two of these kids as they have for us.

I have taught my kids to always be aware of where all vehicles are around you. Check the rear and side mirrors often, and if a vehicle that you saw behind you is gone, check sides to find it. The reason is if you need to make an emergency maneuver, you have a good idea of open spots and escape routes. You also have a good idea of some one driving erratically behind you that may not be paying attention if you need to stop suddenly. Hopefully it helps them as they drive.

Edit: this was supposed to be in reference to an earlier convo, but apparently my phone didn't want to quote the previous post.

I truly feel that driving so many miles with my AT Habitat, and now my Scout, has made me a much more observant driver. It has forced me to use my side mirrors more, and keep track of vehicles behind and around me. Even more so towing. I can't just assume a quick glance in my side view mirror or over my shoulder is enough to know what's going on. I need to constantly watch for cars (or bikes) moving into the GIANT blind spot that is my camper and remember what's back there until it moves around or falls back far enough I can see it. When the truck is unloaded or I'm driving the car, i end up driving the same way. In fact, i often forget I have a rear view mirror.

    See.. This I get this.

I did the same one day years ago too. I used to be into Land Rovers. Went on a day ride with a few people and the little guy was loosing his mind. Had a couple Matchbox LR’s in my ride. Gave the kiddo one, and that turned that little guy 100% around. His parents couldn’t stop thanking me. They had said that they were going to pick some up and do the exact thing when needed.

Kids and toys, yes! But for me, Do not place ducks on my junk.

There are some many distractions now, between phones and giant unneeded infotainment screens, that it is no wonder people don't see things when driving. The crazy thing is the infotainment screens actually put stuff on there to distract you, like the album covers of the music you are listening to. I have noticed that I am way more attentive now that I went to an older truck without any of the built in screens.
