Looks like the OP is in Canadia. I wonder if rules are different there?

Not sure if you are aware, but Canadia is a separate country so the laws are different there. That is what I am even talking about. What might be a total here, may not be a total loss there. You feel me?

Resale is going to take a major hit with frame damage repair on the Carfax.

In the late 70's I worked for Gatesman Autobody in PA. where they had a frame straightening machine/tools and they could do wonders on frames and were held to stringent measurement guidelines. Heck, we cut the whole top of vehicles off and replaced that were in roll overs. I am not afraid of salvage titles if done correctly. You are getting a bargain when buying salvage, just remember the number you saved will also, be taken off when selling.

It'll show up as an expensive rear end collision repair yes. Since it's the most common DCLB config, resale on this almost decade-old truck will take a marginal hit, but it seems the OP is a bit attached to the vehicle to sell it anyway. This is IF the truck gets repaired (frame replacement). Knowing the going prices of 3rd gens of similar vintage on Autotrader.ca, the insurance co. will likely elect to total it.

TY nice of you to say - daily driver in Canadian winters - just Krown every fall (it works)!

Adjuster says fix it - estimated @ 6k in damages - hopefully the repair comes out well.

    Cheers G

My surmise also, though I don't know frames. I'll gladly replace a truck versus a body part that might not ever be right again for the rest of life.

As someone who knows nothin' bout nothin', this seems really surprising. Are they just going to stick her on the frame puller and call it a day?

yes, frame pullers exist for a reason.

Well obviously... Thats why I asked. The question was moreso, was there no other damage to any other parts than the hitch/small portion of the frame? That estimate seemed pretty low (insinuating it only needed some frame adjusting and nothing else).

Awesome, it sounds like you wanted your truck back!
Also, Krown is a terrific product and service! I know there are other other good undercoating products out there.

If this happened 25 to 30 years ago it would have been a death sentence for that tacoma. All frames can be repaired now with no issues. If you have a really good frame restoration place near you, I would consult them. Keep us posted on this please.

My experience has been that a shop that is eager for work will quite exactly what they need to in order to get the job and a busy one will give the quote that gets it totalled. Sounds like they wanted the job. If it is anything beyond frame straightening I wouldn't expect a quality paint job or OEM parts at that price.

that isn't how it works. insurance companies do not just take the word of the shop.

also it is clear you don't understand how this works. oem is an endorsement you pay extra for. read your policy because if you are posting this you definitely havent.

Not sure you understood me. My point was that body shops know what amount insurance will pay to fix and what amount will result in it being totalled. If they want the work they will figure out how to do it for a number low enough to keep it from being totalled and will provide documentation of the damage that will get them the job.

Sometimes that will require them to put less effort into things like the paint job and to skrimp on parts. That was my experience as a car that I was surprised wasn't totalled got cheap aftermarket parts and a poor paint job that didn't hold up.
