A/C Blower motor replacement.

So my motor doesn't go out, but it turns off when the wires get hit by people with big shoes.

Everything is tight. I've checked em countless times. Not sure how to fix it without rewriting all the plugs

 

I replaced my Blower Motor and resistor. It works and air is cold but my problem is not much of it is making it to or through the vents. I can hear that blower going strong and all but something is blocking the air from the blow to the vents. Any ideas?

 

Your Blower motor is possibly running in reverse? or you left the plastic on your cabin air filter? or your cabin air filter is stopped up.

 

^this, the blower wheel should have an arrow on it indicating the correct direction of rotation.

 

It is a 2003 Tacoma Prerunner. It does not have a cabin air filter. Some air does come out just not a lot. It is like something is blocking it. What would make the wheel run in reverse? Is there a door of some kind inside there that could be closed? I noticed looking in there after taking the blower motor out (see pic) there is what looks to be a door. It has an arm and possible hinges. Thought maybe I closed it somehow in the process. Not sure what controls it if it is a door.

 

Sometimes happens with aftermarket blowers or if the connector was replaced and not wired correctly, it's easy enough to check if it's turning the correct rotation..

That's the air inlet (recirculation) door, it changes the air from outside air to inside air (recirculate).

 

Yes! One of the simplest things one can do on a Gen 1. In fact, just about that simple on any Toyota or Lexus I’ve done it on.

No Gen 1 truck has ever come with a factory cabin air filter. Pity.

 

I did have to replace the plug connector and both wires were red so I went by the way the old plug was wired to know which wire was solid and which was striped. Could have doing it wrong made the fan reverse?

Thanks for letting me know about the recirculation door. Nobody I asked knew that.

 

That's a very good possibility, happens to people on 2nd gens all the time when they replace the pigtail for some reason. Swap the wires and see what happens, I bet it fixes it.

 

I hope you are right. That would be GREAT!! My 2002 never had any issues. This 2003 has been a headache, get one thing fixed and something else goes out. Think it's about time to get rid of it. Will let you know if it worked!

 

This happens to my second gen a lot. Doing it right now and I only have AC on full blast. The other 3 speeds don't work unless I wiggle the plug. I think it might be time to unplug it and kind of clean it up to make sure there's not some dirt and gunk in there

 

It fixed it! I am amazed!! Also odd that I went by the old pigtail thinking the way it was wired should be the same in the new one. Chances are some have replaced using that one and blamed the motor for not working. Still not sure why they are making the new pigtails with the same colored wire on both sides. Thanks so much! I thought it was something so much more than just changing wires around.

 

Most pigtails will have all the same wires because they often have multiple applications.
It's not feasable to make the many multiple ones with wire colors specific to every vehicle model and application that would be required so they often make them with all the same wire and it's the installer's responsibility to pin them correctly.

 

My far left vent has never really worked well. While trying to fix something last year I noticed the duct to that side had come loose behind the radio area but wasn't long enough to reconnect. Now I think after doing some research on other stuff there is a piece missing that connects them. Been trying to find a diagram showing what all ductwork is on the 2003.

Anyone on this thread know what causes AC to only get cold when the truck is moving? Had freon and all that. You get stuck in traffic and it is like not having AC because unless the truck keeps moving that AC is not cold.

 

Maybe a clogged or dirty condenser? Sounds like it needs that air flow from driving. I never had that issue.

 

Already checked that. It is good. I think it may be the compressor. When you are sitting still and you hear the AC kick on to get colder, it has no kick. Someone mentioned the compressor clutch but I don't know what that does. New to AC systems.

 

Is your fan clutch working?
Beyond that need to see what the pressures are doing.
