I had 5 wooded acres in Florida that was infested with them, and saw them regularly. They're so small, you're often on top of them before you see them. I've stepped on half a dozen, simply by accident with no retaliatory reaction whatsoever.

 

I'd bet $ they had to FOOL with it

 

It holds true, in North America, not so beyond the border.

 

Coral snakes also do not have elliptical pupils.
