Hello, I have a 2000 Tacoma with 33s and a 3" lift. It rubs at compression. I smashed in the pinch weld but it still rubs when it's compressed. It also rubs on the sheet of metal to the left of the pinch weld when turning under compression. I've been reading that I need to "tub" it. Does anyone know how to do this and how much it costs? I want to be able to fully compress without any rubbing if possible.PXL_20250702_153228999~2.jpg

Have you maxed out your caster yet? 33's with a 3 inch lift don't typically rub. You may rub if you don't have aftermarket upper control arms that maintain factory caster, even with aftermarket you could rub slightly so thats when people max out their lower control arm cams to get rid of the rest of the rubbing.

I have Icon Delta Joint UCA. When I got it aligned, I told them to max it out. I read that all I needed to with 33s was the pinch weld mod, and that works for everyday driving. But when I take it out on trails it rubs with minor compression.

I've seen posts on here about alignment shops just not listening correctly or not really doing the best they can. The front LCA cam bolt heads should be pointing inward toward the center of the truck and the rears should be pointing outwards toward the tires. Maybe not all the way, but close to it.

To add, on the passenger side, if your caster was maxed out you'd be hitting the windshield washer fluid bottle, people relocate the wash bottle with a relocation kit and this is a much easier job than tubbing.

Yes, they are maxed out. The shop visually showed me. And I do rub on the windshield fluid reservoir, that's on my to do list. I'm more concerned with the tires rubbing on the sheet of metal shown above. I feel like it has the potential to cut into the tire if I compress it to the max at a higher speed.

I see, could try taking a hammer to it. I doubt you need more than a quarter inch of extra room. As for tubbing its going to cost you for someone else to do it. I think you have to get all the electrical out of the way that is in the driver side firewall so you can cut without damaging stuff. Since I don't know how to weld I would do 90% of the work and have someone else just weld the new sheet metal piece that I beat into shape.

    4 run, 2 don't
For a 1st Gen, just about every one of them will need the pinch weld mod done to fit 33's.

Heck, I've heard of people rubbing on 32's (I did the tiniest bit on compression).

Thing is, you need to share your alignment numbers as well as the wheels you're running in order to get some better suggestions.

I think I'm going to cut off the sheet of metal that is on the inner side past the pinch weld, I don't see the purpose of them. There's another shield behind that one.

As for the hammered up pinch weld, I think I'm going to take a grinder to it and round it off so it's smooth instead of being sharp.

I'll have to call the shop for a copy of my alignment. I left it in the car and the sun made the paper unreadable.

chop until the sound goes away or take off your coil/shock and move your suspension to full bump and keep cutting until theres clearance all the way through.
