Hello all, I have an interesting question about the license plate lamp wiring. Mine is missing, but I have a couple connectors and see where they should go. I have a couple pictures to show what I need to connect. I have found the 2 pin and pig tails that connect to the lamp, but I have yet to find the 4 pin connector/w pigtails to splice it all together. Also, my 4 pin connector is missing 1 pin, not sure if that's a problem. How would you proceed?

Edit: the last picture is a zoomed in picture of the missing pin on the 4 pin connector. Also, its a 2014 SR5. Thx

Something isn't right there, what color are the wires in that 8 pin connector?

License plate light connector should be a 4 pin connector if you have the trailer tow package, without the tow package they are wired direct.

That plug is 2 green and 1 white with a black stripe. I could be looking at the wrong connector to pig tail into. I haven't gotten the hitch installed yet. It was just rebuilt from salvage due to rear end damage

This is a bundle near the left tail light. Maybe these wires are the ones I use for the license plate lamp?

I'm not sure what's going on there, I can't find that 8 pin connector.
There doesn't even show to be any 8 pin connectors back there other than BE1 which is completely different.

Is something there maybe from a different year model truck or aftermarket wiring?

I believe the back end was a 2017 tundra that was used for repairs.

Should I wait till the hitch is installed to find the connector?

Ok that's interesting, not sure how that works but ok...

So yea if I look up a 2017 Tundra that is Connector SR1, if it's hooked up right it looks like your gona have to cut that off and just wire your LP light pigtails to those wires. Green is Power and White/Black is Ground.

See on a 2014 Tacoma the LP light connectors are part of the towing harness.

You may get a test light and check those wires for power there first, being it's been frankensteined who knows how it's been wired up.

Do your taillights all work okay? You could grab a parking light signal from there maybe?

We could grab it from the taillights easy enough. If you want to do it without splicing wires, I could do something like that for $40. If you want to DIY, let me know and I can lonk you to the connectors easy enough

As an electrician once said: Installing new wire is simple. Figuring out what the yahoo before you did is not.

I feel for the poor soul who buys my truck if I ever sale it. Not that I did a bad job of installing anything, it’s more that the complexity of it is a little… much

Thank you! I'll let you know in about a week. I'm going on the road, so I gotta get back first. Appreciate that.

That is for sure, I'm usually the guy that has to to the figuring after it's been to 5 other shops and everything has been messed with:annoyed:

That's why I try to keep wiring as stock as possible and if I do add something I make it pretty straightforward and easy to remove because I'm usually the guy that ends up going behind other peoples shenanigans and having to figure it out.

Fortunately I didn’t mess with the stock wiring past using tees for tapping stuff, so it can all be undone. I have almost 100 relays running everything, so it wouldn’t be fun to undo, but it could be done

    That doesn't sound fun.
Aftermarket wiring doesn't bother me too much when done properly but 90% of stuff I see is terribly done.

Also when it's in my way when doing dash jobs it get's anoying.
