Today, I left my truck idling for about 5 minutes while I ran into the store. When I came back out, the check engine light was on, along with a message saying: "A malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, transmission, or throttle has been detected."

I’m wondering—has anyone else experienced this issue? If so, what was the cause?

I do have a Pedal Commander installed, but I’ve already unplugged it and the check engine light is still on.

There are hundreds of things that can flag a code and turn on the CEL

Getting the codes read is the first step

There's hundreds of codes that can turn the light on so the first logical step is to get the codes read and see what code(s) you have then proceed with diagnostics accordingly.

Check your gas cap, did it click when you tightened it?

I definitely need to invest in my own OBD-II reader. The guy at AutoZone was an idiot—no help at all. He didn’t even give me the code, and he refused to clear mine. Total waste of time.

Clearing it doesnt help if you're still under warranty, leave the code up if you're still below 60,000 miles.

I thought the warranty was only good for 30,000.

Perhaps your emissions warrantee goes onto 60,000 miles. Would be nice to hear from @Bishop84 .

I never was given a code from Autozone, but I unplugged my Pedal Commander and everything is fine now.

I had the same message right after I installed my Sprint Booster but it was while I was driving on the highway, in traffic, and it went into limp mode, not a pleasant experience. I never unplugged it and everything cleared up after a couple start and shut down cycles and about 50 miles. It's been about 2500+ miles since that happened and so far so good . I wonder if there's a learning curve for the ECM or if it was something all together non related. Whatever it was, it lingers, in the back of my mind, wondering if or when it's going to happen again. Never had it scanned to reveal what codes were thrown.

The system sensed a signal disagreement in electronic throttle control.
It will happen again. Get rid of it

Agreed. It happened again today, roughly 3k since last time it happened. I pulled over and unplugged it and then removed it when I got home. :frusty:

Welp, that sucks. I’ll bet my paycheck that you have a burnt valve and will need a new exhaust cylinder head on bank 1 and a couple new exhaust valves for cylinder 1.

Sadly there is no safe year to purchase to avoid this issue. At least you’re under warranty.
