Landscaping Thread - Show Off Your Landscape

Back yard was mud, needed leveling and grass seed.

 

Forgot to post this two weeks ago. Finally mulched a path to my back garden and landscaped area. Also did a bunch of weeding back there this week, but haven't taken any photos of it.

 

Got more projects from last couple years if y’all want to see them. At least two I can think of.

Built myself a fire pit.

 

Re landscaped this side. Still have a stump here. Last one I need to take out. Unfortunately the summer heat still killed the grass despite killing my water bill. Going to be doing more work on this side of the yard to address water sloping down from the hill forward more of the property but trees.

 

Hydrangeas.

Any recommendations on when and how to trim this thing? She's getting a bit unruly

 

Late winter early spring is best. You can do the fall if necessary...if you do so give it time to recover before a freeze. But winter/spring is best and no more than 1/3

 

this is what the goog said, last year I think I did this around this time and brought it down to the ground and it came back like this. :| So I'll try to be better about it.

The best time to prune hydrangeas depends on the type.Bigleaf hydrangeas (macrophylla), which bloom on old wood, should be pruned right after they finish flowering, or in late summer or early fall.Smooth (arborescens) and panicle (paniculata) hydrangeas, which bloom on new wood, can be pruned in late winter or early spring.

Well you said the same thing other than "including late summer"

I'll probably whack it down in the fall then. Trying to reign this one in on size.

 

i recently saw a post about pruning back hyndrangeas.
all of ours died after we moved in (i think they need alot of water?)
anyway, what she said is not to chop it all down to the base. there are 3 types of growth. dead wood, old wood and new wood. dead wood you should cut down at the base.
But the stems that have dropped their leaves, but still have buds, that is old wood. keep that in place because those will be your next blooms. and of course new wood is the new stuff in spring, i guess. something like that.

 

Nice. I’m in to woodworking too. It makes me relax. What equipments did you use?

 

Basic tools. Compound miter saw and battery operated saw, drills, framing square, chalk line, woodscrews etc.

 

That’s awesome. How long did that take you to build?

 

Total time maybe 3 weeks to a month but took breaks and weather was hot/rain so ended up maybe closer to 2 months. Ended up moving outside boards, and covering the pergola with tin roofing. Just works better for us

 

that’s quick considering the weather. Where’d you get your wood?

 

Lowes and a local place that had cheaper deck boards and posts. Bout the same quality...in wood. Lots warped knotty stuff but came out decent. I stained it but the stuff is wearing/coming off after 1yr in weather. So i need to cover that now

 

All that awful bluegrass is GONE!!!

I'll be rolling fescue the rest of the weekend.

I spent a little time raking it as smooth as I could get it, then dropped some fertilizer down and raked it in.

I can already see two sprinkler heads have to be moved about 3 - 4" and a little fill dirt under the outside edge but it's coming along nicely!
