seatbelt retracts slowly

My drivers seatbelt retracts slowly.

Sometimes I have to guide it in.

Not the end of the world but annoying, especially if it gets worse.

Is there anything that can be done?

Can it be lubricated?

Mine started doing this a few days ago. In most other vehicles I'd just pull it slowly all the way out and hold some tension as it retracted but that didn't seem to help it.

 

Maybe it's getting bound up or twisted in the receptacle?

 

The only thing that I've seen is the plastic pillar trim causes it to bind and retract slow.

Otherwise lubricating it won't help, its usually dust/hair/debris that causes the seatbelt to retract slowly. Dog hair is murder on them.

 

First thing to do is clean the seatbelt.

 

Yup I'd start there. Also, you might want to clean the buckle, (where the slot is, where the belt goes through) as well. Had this happen on my 1st Gen.

 

Mine has done it since that day I picked it up 2 years old used.

 

Yeh mine does it most of the time too and I hate it!

 

Mine is the same way. I did a little bit of research on it but haven’t found any real solutions. Tried every tip I’ve found without success. I just give it a little nudge to help it retract now.

 

Get this fixed. Might be able to replace it from a junkyard. Loose, you could get thrown even belted.

 

I have replaced several for slow retraction out of warranty for no cost.
It’s a good idea to stop in a dealer and explain the situation and see if they will do anything for you.

As long as the interior is clean and not full of dog hair or dirt and it hasn’t gotten into the mechanism they possibly could do something. Doesn’t hurt to ask…

it is quite annoying

 

My gen1 does this and it’s annoying and if the belt retractor is still available I intend to replace it. As far as my gen3 if it starts I will replace it I think most of the time the spring just wears out.
