Yeah that's for sure after that bad experience I went OEM and I really like it the fitment and the quality of the grill is amazing. Good luck with your grill search or you could do a front end conversion!!!

Looks like a new truck! Thanks for sharing the surround PN. how much does that run when compared to an aftermarket complete grille? Post up the truck when you get it painted

I will for sure make a post. The surround got delayed and unfortunately I am on the trip and could not get it painted in time. Once I return I will get you how much it costs and the final look of the truck.

After looking around I realized I just don’t like the look of any of the 05-11 grilles. I am going to go ahead and do the swap to 12-15. I found OEM takeoffs from someone who put on a steel bumper in my area for ~200. I was wondering where you got your TRD lookalike grille? I know Yotamafia sells one that comes with a shroud but I wasn’t sure if I should go OEM shroud.
Question for OP, I haven’t been looking long but how often do OEM sport hoods come up for sale? And are they usually around the 400$ range? If they are more than that I’ll go with an EBay aftermarket but unsure if it’s worth it to hold out and wait for a deal on a scooped/unscooped OEM hood.

Good choice you wont regret the front end conversion. I got the 2015 OEM TRD PRO grill. I got the grill for 371 which is an employee discount and I would try to find someone who could possibly get it to you for that price if they cant try to go to your local dealers online parts store or go on ebay. Its also linked on the start page of this thread for 419 (I went OEM after the disaster that was my 05-11 grill.)

Say I get the OEM grille, does it matter if I get an OEM shroud? What dictates the fitment?
I have access to a paint booth so I’m not worried about painting if I could get someone’s take off.

I dont think that you need to get the OEM shroud. Im pretty sure and he wants to chime in Yotaproject went on eBay and found a cheap non oem grill and took the shroud off and paint matched it and put it on the Trd pro grill. For fitment the requirements Im pretty sure is the 12 screws and the clips that the shroud goes into. One thing I will note is because I went oem I did have to order 12 extra screws.

You’re correct, I bought an entire aftermarket grille from eBay just to take the frame from it and paint it silver and install it on my OEM TRD grille insert. I’m happy with the fitment and gaps as well. Here’s a pic with it against the aftermarket scoop hood from eBay. No complaints from me.

Update! Sorry about the wait I was in Europe had a great time. Got my "grill piece in" got a completely different part. I got the entire grill with inferno pictured. I do not know if Toyota does in fact sell the grill surround piece but I am glad I got the entire grill because I did need the weather stripping. I would recommend going the ebay option because I did spend a whole lot more and I am, sure the Ebay option would of worked and had a good fitment. My total for the OEM grill Inferno color was $189. Next up paint going to paint it silver streak mica and put the remainder of the grill for sale on ebay.

Can I ask what you use for dressing on the black portion of the bumper below the lower grille? (if any) My truck is white and
the upper bumper is fine and looks really nice, however the black section below the lower grill slot never looks particularly good no matter what I have tried on it. I don't mind re-doing it every so often, but it doesn't last and always looks lousy shortly after application: even without rain. Same with the plastic covers on the rear bumper. Thanks!

I put this on the black textured trim every time I wash my truck (handles, mirrors, bed rail caps, lower bumper grille, and fog light bezels)

Take a look at solution finish black trim restorer. It actually contains die unlike the regular ones that temporarily oil the plastic. A little goes a long way and lasts wayyyyy longer.

Thanks! I'll try them. Meguire's is my go-to for a lot of things. I use their clear plastic/vinyl convertible window polish on a lot of things. It removes the fine scratches in the clear plastic on the gauge cluster.
