It's brutal, the tundras are the same. Theres a lot more caster that translates into a better ride, but I hate 3 point turns.

All I know is it's not nearly as bad to park as the 2016 F-150 SCREW we had for a while :) Not having had a previous Taco I have nothing to compare it to recently but it seems OK to me for what it is.

Toyota and Mazda do have a joint plant in Alabama, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they used the same suppliers for other vehicles as well.

OooohhhWeeeeee!! Finally took possession. 5 long months of waiting, but it's got all the options I wanted and none I didn't, and the price was certainly right, so worthwhile wait. I know the Terra splits opinions, but I love it. Distinctive without being too flashy. It drives great, apart from possibly (?) mild dead spots on the tires. We'll see how that sorts itself out. Had to turn off all the safety features after the first few miles cuz they were driving me crazy and distracting me from just driving. I'll eventually sort through to see which I want to activate and when. The Terra Spaceship has landed. What a difference from a 2011 OR to 2025 OR.

That’s awesome - yeah I just put 350km on my TRD OR yesterday and honestly loving it. Also coming from a 2nd gen (08 sr5) and massive difference - I was skeptical as loved my old truck and had it dialled (didn’t really want a new one but some other driver thought I should get one by crashing into us) After spending a full day in it I’m very impressed. Terra is definitely my first choice but till looks good!

Congrats. Terra has grown on me. After the initial seemingly overwhelming inputs your brain will adapt and sort them out. I welcomed the challenge as it helps keeps dementia away.

Didn’t go back and read the last 10 pages, so I apologize if this has been stated.
I just looked at my Toyota app and the brake line recall affects the 18” wheel as well. I have a TRD sport, 18” wheels and the recall is listed and mentions specifically the 18” wheels. Guess I’ll have this and the trailer BSM system reprogrammed at the same time.

It seems odd to me that a shorter line, and tighter curl resolves the issue. Actually it seems odd this is an issue at all. What, one truck out of 250,000?

Exactly. One guy goes mudding and doesn't wash his truck, and.....? There's a recall for stupid people.

I can kinda see the stupid guy's argument though. It is a weird routing that could have been designed 1/2 a dozen better ways. Adding insult to injury, they picked the dumbest solution to implement. It was probably the cheapest.

That being said, selling a quarter million tacos last year means they've got to contract a supplier for half a million new brake lines. That takes time and it's all money lost.

I apologize if it's stating the obvious, but voluntary recalls are done not because of stupid people but because of smart lawyers. In our highly litigious "I can make millions just for ordering hot coffee" society, companies go through a calculation of what they could lose from lawsuits versus what the recall would cost. Considering theoretical risk of loss of life from failure, they probably made the right calculus.

Worse part is rear discs are the biggest difference between the 4G and every other Toyota Tacoma ever. You think Toyota would have taken the time and done it right the first time. GAF already had Tundra and LC 250 to go off of. It's like Toyota looked at the 3G and drum brakes and had Homer moment where they forgot how to design rear disc brakes.

The fix might become a second recall which would make Toyota even worse than getting it wrong the first time.

Not for nothing, but the “hot coffee” story really was a huge fuck up by McDonald’s and a case of actual negligence.

Sorry, but I already switched to 18” wheels and drive mostly on pavement. This “recall” is totally overblown and costing stockholders millions.

There’s an okay doc from 2011 called “hot coffee” if you want to watch that.

but it’s important to note that the high dollar lawsuit only came about because the victim asked for medical bills only and got shut down by McDonald’s.

I'm liking the recall on trucks with 18" wheels like my Sport. My winters are mounted on 17" OR wheels.

The recall should apply to all gas non hybrid trucks since 17" wheels should fit. I don't know it applies to hybrids or not or if they have different lines because of the different axles.

I stil don't know if leaf sprung trucks have different lines or the same

I don't disagree about the litigation risk. That's why an actuary has a job. They sit around with actuarial tables and literally calculate the costs of risk.

That said, if mud in your wheel is abrading your brake line - part of that's on you. Vehicles that get muddy for a living (everything from skid steers to military tracked vehicles) wash the mud out for all sorts of reasons. The main one is that it causes problems. It dries and binds stuff up, it abrades it, it holds moisture and promotes rust. It can even throw track. Frozen mud is a special kind of fun.

A Tacoma isn't a magical unicorn that engineered its way out of environmental realities. If the inside of your wheel is so caked with dried mud/gravel that it abrades a hole in a brake line... you're a special kind of stupid.

Thankfully we are in agreement. Take my earlier point about the hot coffee. Even as @OpeCity describes, the initial suit was just for medical expenses, but the question is if you order hot coffee and spill it on yourself, are you at fault for your medical bills or is the coffee maker? Similar for the mud in the wheels causing brake line failure. There are complex layers of responsibility, and for instance I thanks Ralph Nader for making me so much safer in my vehicle than without his work. But here we steer legally towards blame mostly on the makers and away from personal responsibility. Thus this voluntary recall. Could draw parallels in medicine for defensive ordering of expensive tests to prevent being sued for the 1 in 1000 pathologic finding. Not so in places where it's much more difficult to just sue and settle out of court.
