I take the truck in for its 10,000 mile service at 7:30am. The dealership operates a shuttle service so I don't have to bug anyone to pick me up or take me back later today.

As for weather, coastal fog this am, classic Santa Cruz weather.

    The list is growing.
Not a big fan of the all star break. But it’s a reset for all the teams I guess. Red Sox are on a tear.

Twenty-two years ago I had a bad fall slipping on ice and suffered a badly broken leg and a partially torn off foot; during my recovery I started writing a story which had been rattling around in my brain for a few years. Looking back on that story, it is clear I was about as green and unprepared to write as a person possibly could be, but the story isn't half bad.

Over the years I've written a half-dozen or more stories, more for cathartic reasons than anything else, and have never considered getting any of them published. Yeah, about that; I recently shared one of my manuscripts with a friend of many years and she loved it, then my sister, who has been a writer of poetry and short stories for years, coaxed me to send her a copy; she loved it so much she talked it up to her writing coach, who happens to be a former university professor, and is still an active editor and publisher. I heard from him this weekend, he likes the story as well and wants to publish it!

Yikes, if all goes to schedule, I could end up being a published author some time this fall; something I never dreamed would happen. :woot:

For most of my working career my average time on the job was 18 months. So I worked a lot of gigs. And you're right, some companies are crap and others are gold. But a lot has to do with the guy directly above you. I've worked for a great company that turned to **it when a supervisor changed, and I've worked for crappy companies with a boss that made it enjoyable.
The best guy I ever worked for was myself. I was a great boss.

I had something similar happen, and it led to five books. Kind of a heady experience. Good luck with yours...

Yeah, I was a self-employed consultant for over 30 years and agree with the above sentiment. My most recent job, the one which ended last Friday, was a great company until our new parent corporation instilled their messed up culture into it; the guy I reported to was great, but that couldn't make up for how bad the parent corporation was. When I told him I was resigning and going to work for Google, he said, "Well, it sucks to lose you, but hey, don't lose my number, and if you hear of anything at Google I might like, call me immediately!"

Okay, the parts are on their way... I couldn't get the order to complete online, so just called them this morning. With 2-day air, should be here Wednesday.

On another front, and more aligned to being over 60 years old, it has been 6 months since my (second) sciatica-pain surgery to remove a cyst off the disc between L5 & S1 that was touching the nerve. The year before, it was the disc between L4 & L5. Well, pain did not go away fully and now I am having bad lower back pain, too. Saw my back surgeon... and we are going to get some fusion at those two locations. May take 3-4 months to get that done.

I grew up in Oakland, was an avid A’s and Raiders fan. But it seems every team I cheer for leave and go to Las Vegas. The A’s gone, the Raiders gone. Im also Sharks hockey fan , I hope they stick around. In reality I don’t really follow sports like when I was younger. I very seldom watch any sports on tv. If I’m going to watch anything it’s an occasional Sharks hockey game or a college football game. I’ll tell you what really turns me off is when I go to a party or social gathering and I’m hanging out with the guys and they are just talking sports and sports statistics. It’s boring and makes me crazy. That’s why I usually hang out with the women (unless the guys are talking hunting/fishing), the women are much more fun and interesting. Looks like I’m starting to babble so I’ll just shut this down. Have a good day all.

    Hey I understand totally !!!
My wife loves baseball, basketball and golf. She know the D-Back players, who is pitching, what place in the standings ...
She follows golf like no one I've seen ... when and where the next PGA or LIv is happening and I LOVE IT ..

I GET TO NAP/sleep sitting in the chair next to her ... its great ... and yes ....
Hanging out with the ladies/n babes is what I do also, their conversation is more fun and interesting .... just is ... they think we're "sensitive", you know ....

Should we tell the youngsters about this ????

Seattle Stinkeners get swept by the Hankies then they sweep El Tigres. Team drives me nuts. But a catcher setting home run records. You can’t take your eyes off the box score even if you don’t watch the games.

All star game is a bit of a rigged popularity contest. That’s ok.
