I had a daisy red rider bb gun when I was 9 or 10 years old. I was allowed to keep it accessible outside of the gun cabinet and use it when I wanted. Standard gun rules applied, and if you kill anything you have to eat it.

Robins don't taste real good. Never shot anything living again until I got a hunting license.

 

Wife and I need a break from the house pit and the heat, anybody out wheeling in the trees this weekend?

No but just did this hike after a day down in SF & a day at a friends in El dorado hills/folsom area.

was a crisp 76 degrees and was shaded about 50% of the time. 10/10 recommend just download the maps cus the trails narrow like a goat path in some spots. Don’t need to be in crazy good physical shape either. Real reasonable.

water felt warmer or equal temp to Tahoe too so was super nice to just sit and lounge around

The hiking itself was also genuinely a fun mix of narrow through bushes and under logs etc and slabs and minor bouldering etc.
I’ll be doing it at least once more before I leave at the end of August. Wild that it’s only 3 miles away from the road in Southlake lmao. We didn’t see another person after we went past cascade falls

A buddy and I did an overnight at Lake of the Woods, which despite our average-at-best efforts landed us with many mosquito bites. Also did some 'splorin on the usual trails around the area and decided to try out the Jeep trail to Fordyce. Needless to say, we did end up turning back about halfway because there was no way the truck was making it down the trail once you get past the mine pit turn around area. All in all some great fun, nothing broke (except my buddy's stove and possibly a running board) and now I know what upgrades to make next and what trail to never take again. I'll edit a few pics in later

 

We ended up camping this weekend to escape the heat, target was around the Gold Lake area at one of the smaller lakes nearby, but we got denied with essentially every possible spot near water already taken. WOW has that area become popular!
After wandering around the mountains there for a few hours and trying every spot I knew of we decided to abandon that plan and head a bit south. Hit the Yuba summit and went south down the forest roads to Webber, and then out to Meadow lake by the top of Fordyce. While we usually avoid paid campgrounds this happened to be the ticket and we claimed the last available site, set up camp and went for a swim in the lake before making dinner and getting attacked by mosquitos.... Unfortunately the one thing we forgot to pack was bug spray. The next morning we got up a bit lazily, made breakfast and while enjoying the lake view with our coffee the camp host came by and said we had 30 minutes to leave or pay for another day. Ah yes, thats right, paid sites have check in/check out times. Doh Off to another lake to swim and relax for the afternoon. Happened to find a great spot at another nearby lake and hung out until about 4 when we figured it was time to head back the 2hrs home.

 

Wait...What side of meadow were you on and what vehicle did you take? We were going through there around 9:45-11:30ish and it was definitely pretty busy. Also we randomly stopped at a campsite to take a look at the lake and someone had left their fire going....this is why we can't have nice things.

 

We were in my Gladiator, second site right at the north end of the lake as you first come in. What rig were you in? Saw a lot of Tacomas out in the area.
At the lake we went to swim at yesterday after leaving Meadow we encountered a smoldering fire pit as well and dumped a couple gallons of water on it before leaving. This being said, at Meadow with hosted/established sites they were allowing fires, but at the next lake we visited fires certainly would not be allowed and yet people obviously had them over the weekend. We packed our propane fire pit.

 

I definitely saw you then and we passed you a couple times in a blue Tacoma with a shell. Good looking rig you have and a great setup. Definitely a lot of tacomas and a few others which on some areas I was surprised to see. I was wondering if they were allowing fires. Our area definitely wasn't so we also had a little propane stove for dinner/breakfast. Excited to go back out with some extra things to keep the mosquito bites minimized.

 

We were at meadow this weekend too! Unfortunately our dog unbeknownst to us ingested a poisonous mushroom and at about 1a.m. Friday night she started tipping over while walking and then began having body convulsions and was totally out of it, so if you saw or heard a big ford Econoline with fiberglass top barreling out of the campground around then that was us. Luckily we got her to the E.R. vet in time and she has made a full recovery since then. We came back up Saturday probably around 1 or so in the tacoma to gather the stuff we left behind when we had to expeditiously leave.

 

That's a big scare. Glad she's okay. My friend will be bringing his dog next week so that'll be something we need to watch out for.

Oh man thats crazy! Good to hear you got out quick and the vet was able to save your pup.
You didn't happen to be in site 6 did you? When we rolled in Saturday and I saw site 6 paid but open I mentioned it to the host and they were very surprised it was empty and mentioned the van cool the people there had and how she wanted to chat about it before they checked out. Your emergency with your pup would definitely fit the bill of leaving unexpectedly like that.

 

Yep must have been, I honestly don't know the site but we had talked to them a bit about the van. We met up there with a couple of my younger cousins from the Sacramento area, paid the 2 night fee when we got there Friday, apparently they had gotten their trailer stuck on a stump on the way up when they turned down a wrong road, so when we had our dog emergency they stuck around camp for a while before heading to go get the trailer and there was no service to coordinate the fact that neither of us were staying Saturday night otherwise would have driven over to the hosts to tell them we weren't staying.

 

Scary stuff @excorcist. Glad your pup is on the mend.

 

I don't currently have a Weim. My Weim/Lab mix passed 4 1/2 years ago as she was creeping up on16 yrs old. My male Weim, the one in my profile pic passed 1 1/2 years ago at 13 years old. About a year ago adopted from the SPCA a pup listed as a Weim mix. I wanted another Weim so much I saw what I wanted to see. He turned out not to have any Weim in him. When I get him a sibling, it will be a Weim. I think the Weim is the best breed. My current one can be naughty and figured out how to open doors inside my home. I have to make it so he can't get into rooms I don't want him in, like the pantry. I also have to lock the gate because he has learned how to open the gate to let himself out of the backyard.

 

Does anyone know of a place up here that I can give my bypasses to (fully assembled) and get them cerakoted?

 

We took a drive up to the Gold Lake area last weekend. Went for a short hike, let the dog swim for a bit then got some beers at Brewing Lair. It’s definitely a busy area.

Meadow Lake is one of my favorites though even though it’s paid. At least the sites are kind of spread out and most are on the water. Although there’s a nearby small lake named after a cookie company that I’m sure you know about that I always have good luck with.
