The AC compressor it down on the driver side of the engine. You can have someone turn the AC on and off as the trucks running while you look at the pulley. You should see the front part (clutch) stay still and then start spinning once the AC is turned on. There can still be issues but that's a free little check you can do.

+1 on the likelihood of being the fan clutch. Had to switch mine out on my Ranger. I don't have stats, but my PERSONAL suspicion is that it's the most likely issue most times in such circumstance. Once replaced, cooling was great. Caveat being the fan clutch is not the only thing that could cause the issue as others have stated.

The viscous fluid in fan clutches can give out over time and cause the fan to slip more (ie. spin slower) reducing airflow through the radiator and condenser. I know some people try to replace the fluid, but to me, the price of a new fan clutch compared to the possibility that it wouldn't work or work for long, it just makes sense to just replace.

Not sure, I had it serviced 2 years in a row and it made no difference so I knew something had to be wrong. Noticed nothing ever kicks on when not moving or anytime really.

When you state you had it serviced 2 years in a row, is that an a/c service (and not the fan clutch)? I can imagine some cheesy shops will just check/adjust refrigerant and/or operation of ac system (only) without checking for adequate cooling from the fan (ie. measuring temperature output at the vents).

Supposedly freon was added and I had all belts replaced last year. The thing cools fine like in the morning when its not so hot but by lunch it can't cool off anything until its a long highway trip at a steady speed.
