I currently have an 18 tacoma access cab sr5 (as shown in my profile picture)
    Has the 2.7 and 4x4

I love the truck, but sometimes i feel theres something lacking

Is it worth it to trade up for a 20-23 access cab trd offroad?

I prefer the cosmetic upgrades to the last few years of the 3rd gen (such as the LED headlights) but i wouldnt mind an 18 and 19 either

I know both the 2.7 and 3.5 arent crazy fast but driving the 2.7 can feel gutless sometimes

I dont tow currently but wouldnt mind taking up the idea in the future

    Only you can decide that.

Do some pricing, do some test driving. Then decide if the juice is worth the squeeze.

Do some searching, even with the 3.5 the Tacoma isn't a great tow vehicle. Of course that depends on what you consider towing,,, a little popup, tiny metal boat, or a utility trailer is fine, but if you want to get a travel trailer etc I would look to a full size half ton at least.

Have you tried filling your 2.7 with premium octane gas? I normally fill up with regular, but the last 3 fill ups have been using premium and now rarely use the ECT button with my 3.5 V6.

Worth a try if you have been using regular to see if you notice an improvement.

I think it is worth a try to see if improved performance is noticed.

It won't, but just for the sake of argument, let's say OP pumps her full of readily available high octane gas, and unleashes a 3% overall gain in HP.
So the OP has realized a gain equivalent to a small push mower.

If we omit the power of suggestion and stay in reality, adding a push mower's worth of HP to a 4,000+ lb truck isn't going to register on anyone's butt dyno.

Ive driven the 3.5 but only seen double cab sr5, trd offroads, sports, and trd pros
I know theres more weight considering cab size and im not sure how frequent AC V6s are around here atleast on dealer lots to test drive.

As for pricing i did a quick look and Both Carmax and Carvana show about 20-21k for my truck. Unsure if thats too much or fair.

I think the trucks ive been looking at range from 34-40k depending on condition and mileage. I know the 3rd gens have gone up since the 4th gen came out. Ill have to keep searching

To me the power and torque figures in the long run. I know the 2.7 is dead reliable and has been around for decades. 2.7 in the first gen and possibly the 2nd gen depending on cab size such as the single cab 2wd makes more sense in my eyes.

Its difficult to put my finger on it but living in NY where everyone races from the stop light, its difficult to keep up from 0-60. Its not a race truck i get that nor is the v6. It could use a little get up and go for regular driving. I could be asking for too much out of it. Maybe i have a heavier foot as well which could be a factor.

As for the LED headlights maybe it was a package? Im unsure. Ive seen both the LEDs and the halogens with the LED DRLs on OR. Ive seen more LED models on the last few model years and the 16-19 having the LED running lights w halo headlights.

My experience with what came on the higher trims and packages isnt there. Ive just been eyeballing trucks that have them online and what ive seen enter the shop and around town.
