It was with an engineer explaining how the vibration of building the new bridge is affecting the old bridge. I think.

    Ask Carlos @McSpazatron

Sounds like the old bridge must be damned rickety in that case.

Right now I have a devil on my right shoulder saying, get um. You'll be a cool kid.
On my left shoulder is an angel saying, you current tires are still good. What would your wife say?

    Pat talk me into it.

Do I have to? The price is RIGHT... I love these tires. The only thing you may need to hear is that they are a tad wider than you are used to. might rub a bit here and there. I know how to fix that sheet. Will throw mud up the side in that bad boy cool look... I am picking up my mirror in the morning, just leave that right there.

It's amazing how 1 person can move so far away and still be an influence on our simple mediocre lives.

Watch (find) the video, he explains it. It's all about the difference in footings. The old one's just fine, without all of the gyrations of driving new footings.

The 2025 trip out west. Reason for the trip was to attend my brothers celebration of life, and the reason for me was to get some time in the mountains to clear the fog of the past year out of my head. Mileage total was 4042 miles. I was told to pad that number so here is the pad: I am running 35’s with no adjustment on the odometer. You figure it out. I don’t care as my ass sat through all of it and it is tired.

Here are some things I learned:

My truck likes 91 octane. For the first couple days I ran 87 with corn. My mileage was in the neighborhood of 8-9 mpg. The winds in North Dakota didn’t help that, but more about that later. Hard to get 200 miles on a 20 gallon tank like that! Switched to 91 without corn and WOW! Started seeing 15-16 mpg. My average was a whopping 14 mpg for the whole trip-I am a happy boy!

91 octane gas is expensive. I paid a lot for fuel on this trip. Most I paid for gas was $5.69 a gallon in Elk City Idaho. Least was $3.15 in Bismark North Dakota.

North Dakota is an anomaly. No matter what direction you travel across North Dakota the wind will fight you. Blasted us all the way west on the way out and once we got to Dickenson it turned into our faces on the way east. It is also mind numbingly boring once you get east of Dickenson. Not as bad as eastern Minnesota, but a close second.

If your wife is in the truck, AIR DOWN. Even for only 5 miles. Air down. Sharon discovered that squishy Kenda’s are the way to go. I went deep every time:11-12 psi. Made things much easier for her. Used the sheet out of my compressor and wasted lots of time but it was so worth it. By the way, Kenda Klevers ROCK! Not one problem with the tires-had to pull a screw and plug a hole but they didn’t even blink.

Might be time to rethink wheeling alone. The truck got broken in a fluke of fate. We were a llllloooonnngg ways up into a remote area with limited to sketchy phone service. As it turned out we were able to get out and get towed, but it could have been VERY expensive and time consuming if the stars had not aligned. Scared me pretty good I have to admit. Had it been worse we were safe, unhurt and with supplies for a week. We would have been fine. But just having someone to bounce ideas off of would have helped. I am proud of my attempted field fix-it was elegant. Unfortunately it did very little in the end as I could not secure the truck well enough, but any of you frame techs out there would be smiling!

It is okay to be in a dry place when it rains. I must be growing up. No need to be tarped if there is a cabin, hotel or hot spring nearby! Stayed in my first mountain top Forest Service cabin on Strawberry Butte near Helena. Rocked! Red River Hot Springs is worth a stop after the Magruder. Rustic and welcoming.

Diversions from the plan are cool. So is Hells Canyon on the Snake River (not really it was flucking hot down there!) Remember what you are driving if there is a huge traffic delay and look for those FS roads that might make the trip memorable and get you where you are going.

Never trust river guides. Ever. they will lead you astray. It will be fun but you will sheet yourself.

Yellowstone was based on real life. I met Bob Stone, the great great grandson of the people who established the Perkins Ranch outside of Deer Lodge Montana. The stories he told me about his family and their history in Montana are a direct plot line for the show… Hope his 175 year family celebration shindig went well over the 4th.

Tunnels are nerve wracking. Glad I can say I did the Willis Tunnel but it was BIG. Water was 3’ plus in places and the road
bed was rougher than a cob in there.
