What's the course of action for fixing the rear of the cab when it separates? Seam sealer and a few c clamps?

    20240508_185528.jpg

I replaced my body mount bushings last year, and either I didn't know about this issue before, or it's been caused by that. The truck feels much better, so it's a small price to pay in the long run I guess...

SEM Seam sealer and I'd throw a couple tack welds on there if it were my truck

I apparently tend to favor the driver side too in breaking things apparently.

What did you end up doing to fix this?

Mine is separating on both sides, and cracks are propagating through the cab corners. Seems bad :notsure:

Any noises associated with these? I'm hearing some new shit and hoping it isn't the cab falling apart.

Now I'm afraid to do an inspection.

I think you already know the answer

From what I can see, the back panel of the cab is held on mainly or entirely by seam sealer. Which sucks, but maybe means it’s not too hard to fix.

Haha, yeah. I guess I should have been clearer. We saw those when we were doing the body mount replacement and I can hear creeks and squeaks from them when the cab weight shifts in sharp turns. But at that time I hadn't seen anything from the outside like you are seeing. And now I am kind of afraid to look again. Especially since I was hearing something new on this last outing.

Yeah, lots of noises. They don’t seem especially worse than they used to be. Worth checking sooner rather than later though.

Think I’m going to pull the gfc and bed off soon and look at remediation options.

I might try bolting through the bottom pinch weld, since the vibration is clearly causing the separation to start there.

The cab corner is fucked though, I’ve already been thinking about redoing my sliders so I might just boatside this thing.

It's going to break that flange off without some reinforcement, maybe weld a backer on or spot weld the panel. I'm not sure what the right answer is

Yeah you’re probably right. We’ll see what it looks like when I take it apart.

Might replace the window with polycarbonate to keep the weight down on that panel as well.

You can just put the non slider model window in, that's what I was going to do

Clearly you need to wheel harder

We’ll see how badly I screw mine up and you can decide if you want to do the same.

I'm about to dive back into that project. My quick weld job to silence the noise before my 6,000 road trip isn't holding up. I'm the least worried about the seam. I have crack propagating in a number of areas in the floor.
