    OP - it's the A750F. You can view a wiki of Toyota A series trannys here...

    Note that the listing hasn't been updated for 2010-2011 Tacomas, but it's the same. The transmission actually is made by a company called Aisin-Warner, and as you will see on that Wiki, the A750 series has a pretty solid history, having seen use since 2003. It's also the auto tranny in the FJs and 4Runners. It's also been used in some Tundras, Land Cruisers, and Lexus SUVs over the years, though in many of these vehicles, Toyota has moved on to the A760F (6 speed auto). So it's a tried and true design.

    Along the same lines, how would I determine if my 2011 if pre-12/2010 or after 12/2010? It has the newer instrument cluster, so I'm figuring it's after 12/2010 but I can't find it in any documentation.

    Yep. Open driver's side door, and look for a white sticker in the door frame (on the cab, not on the door). You'll see a "Mfg" on date. On mine, it's written towards the upper right corner of that sticker.

    The same sticker also has the transmission model number. It will say something like this:
    A/TM: A0LA/A340E

    Decoded:
    A: Axle
    TM: Transmission
    A0LA: Axle model number
    A340E: Transmission model number

    The "4" in the transmission model is the number of speeds, so in the example, A340E is a 4 speed.
