if I had to make a code change to fix something broken on my platform, my hands would be tied. takes 3+ days to publish an app update on the google store

Thankfully we don't have an on-call rotation (fingers crossed it stays that way) but a buddy of mine is the sole developer supporting our API gateway, and the listed point of contact if something goes wrong.

Almost anything that would go wrong will be an error that he's proxying from other system, so all he can ever really do is say "go talk to so-and-so".

I say "don't write code that breaks" a bit facetiously, but setting that as a sincere goal is really the only viable production support strategy. Everything else is just band aids over disappointment.
