First blind-ass guess, ironically, is to check the battery ground strap to the chassis. Sometimes they corrode to the point of turning into insulators.

    Added to my checklist.

He doesn't know how to maintain a car so I have a list of some basic, tune-up type things to check.

    Update on the Hyundai.

    I didn't do much.
1st noticed his coolant reservoir was empty and dry. o_O
Second I checked the oil because that's the main reason he was coming over. There was nothing registering on the dip stick. o_O
Let's change the oil and see what comes out......I'm not the best judge of things but this looks like around 2qts.20250716_151723.jpg o_O
Changed the oil, reset the ecu, cleaned the maf. It started up with no trouble and no warnings........for now.

Sent him on his way and said,
"Don't shut it off until you get home"

    Edit: I filled the coolant

Still no codes on the hyundai, this morning.
Almost makes me think an O2 sensor or something was getting angry.....
I'm very surprised his car wasn't overheating or an oil pressure light didn't come on.
(He drove it to St. Louis last weekend that way)

(when I say hyundai I pronounce it Hi - un - day)

Working on the MN OHV rules and regulations book.
The only one that stands out to me is out of state people need a registration sticker to ride the ORV trails on state and county lands.
(some of you probably knew that)

Yeah, that's super dangerous. All of the load on your neutral was going to your ground bars and anywhere it found a path to ground. It probably found your cable connection through intersystem bonding. By having a weak neutral, your circuits could also have been overloaded due to low voltage.

If you're getting shocked from a ground wire, you have serious problems. o_O

Correct. Whole intersection is getting torn down and rebuilt. I raised hell about it because it was definitely more than 110 that we run hot to the heads anyway

Yeah, probably 277 or 480V. Most of our lighting circuits are 277, unless it's not available at a building.

If it was 480 I wouldn't be posting on TW :p

But it definitely hurt like hell and kicked like a mule

Well, 480 is just 2 legs of 277/480Y, so you wouldn't get that from a single conductor. Honestly, 120V will kick your ass plenty if you're grounded well.

We do. The ground usually comes from something else you're touching.

Edit: although, when I did residential, I wore tennis shoes most of the time.

I think he was talking about Adams County and how the Wisconsin River flows through it.

Speaking of Adams; I haven't seen @wi_taco around in awhile. Where have you been hiding, Adam?

    Amen to that.

Signals doesn't have to, due to

    A: "everything is 110"

B: bulk makes maneuvering the bucket/truck impossible.

C: linemen do it, because when they go up, they're basically jousting with the laws of nature, and they have one job.

As a signals guy, I gotta bring half the damn shop up with me.

With EAA starting next week, lots of planes flying over last evening and this morning. Mostly Alaskan/Canadian bush planes. The war birds are cool to watch fly over. Sometimes we get a free air show when they practice.
