    So I just talked to a local shop to have my lift installed and informed them of my setup; bilstein 6112 w/bilstein UCA, wheelers progressive 1.5" AAL with 5100 in rear.

    They told me they would probably need to set the 6112's at max setting to match the rear height. This seems like its maybe too much based on what ive read and will ride harsh.

    The 6112s I have are the 11 notch and not 6 or 7 notch from the previous generation so im having issue finding any real setting recommendations for my setup. Anyone have any advise based on their setup.

    The clip setting does nothing but change the ride height- when loaded, the coil spring will be the same length regardless of which clip it is set to.

    The only change is the amount of travel the shock will allow before bottoming out or reaching max extension.

    I don't know what the other guy was talking about but from reading a good portion of the 6112 thread from people who run 6112s the clip settings definitely effect ride harshness. I decided to go with a 10/8 setting based on what i could find, have to see if it works. It's in the shop today so I'll post an update when I get it back.

    You are affecting preload when changing the clip. You don't want too much preload, but a little is a good thing.

    It will only affect the "harshness" of the ride if you add way too much. A modest amount you won't notice, but it will start reducing the suspension travel.

    It not preload- the moment you put that spring under the load of the truck, it will compress to the same loaded length regardless of where it started.
    * for non-progressive rate springs.

    I did 6112s/5160s and same AAL (removed/left out the little OEM backing plate when installing AAL), aimed for 1" lift front (.9 I think per clip chart older style), expected 1.5" from AAL minus a bit for weight of cap - ended up retaining a bit of rake which was my goal, front and back eachraised about an inch (with cap) If worried rear too high (relative to front) I'd leave out the extra backing plate (fine with or without it).

    I have my 6112s on the 1.4" setting with a 1in lift in the back. With a 1.5" lift in the rear the 1.4" setting would give you basically factory rake which is honestly the best place to be. If you want more level no harm with going to the 2" settings. I wouldn't go beyond that though.

    Just got it back and the 10/8 (1.7") setting is perfect w/the 1.5" progressive AAL. It rides slightly softer then b4 and eats up any road imperfections which is exactly what I was going for, 275/65R18 on factory rims with absolutely no rub. Wanted a mild lift to help accommodate the bigger tires without messing with suspension geometries too much and I think I nailed it, no vibrations so far.
