My 06's seat foam isn't so supportive these days. Mostly the left side of the seat is kind of saggy, and I have bad posture while driving. I'm trying not to shell out $$ for Toyota seat foam. Any ideas for adding some foam? Maybe cutting some Amazon foam and adding it to left side? Is that a bad idea?
Harvesting the foam from a junkyard seat would be good, but none around here.

    Thanks

I'm in the same boat. I'm going to pick up a passenger seat and transfer the foam and cover over to my blown out driver's seat.

Shipping a used seat to my house for the foam isn't very cost effective, so I might end up swapping foam from my own passenger's seat if I have to. But if there's a cheap method for breathing a bit more life into my driver's seat, that would be even easier than taking off 2 seats' upholstery.

I put leather seat covers on mine recently. I got some 1 or 3/4 inch foam from Amazon and put under the driver's seat cover bottom so it would "fill out" the seat covers.

    Bumping this old thread.

Anyone got a foam type recommendation? Or is it better to swap the passenger seat foam. Would be willing to do that job at this point. Any tips for swapping?

I found new seat covers on eBay, they do not match the original but if you bought the whole set they are cheap. Found new foam on eBay for my Ford super duty. I did get rid of the bench seat in mine, and went with buckets, a friend bought for me from copart in Wichita. The price was very right, and he got me the exact same year as my taco.

FWIW, I used to work in an upholstery shop. There are MANY different types and densities of foam. There's like a 99% chance you will not find the same type of foam buying aftermarket. And even if you did, you can't just cut or shape foam easily. The shapes that come from the factory are all cut with a hot wire CNC machine. You basically have to order the shapes you want. And they likely use different types and densities depending on which part of the seat it is which just makes it even hard to replicate.

There is also the quality/longevity of the foam. The chemical makeup of the foam is what determines longevity (firmness doesn't really factor in, but too soft usually means more wear on the fabric). The longer it lasts typically means the more expensive it is. And you would be shocked how expensive good, long lasting foam can be.

Long story short, I wouldn't even attempt to DIY the foam. And I'm saying that as someone with upholstery experience. I think people are on the right track with trying to find used seats and swapping the foam. Even the brand new OEM replacements aren't horribly overpriced for what it is. Just keep in mind that there may be some geometric differences between driver and passenger seats depending on what model you have.

Interesting. Learned something new today… Will go with OEM replacement when it’s time for me to replace…

Seems like the opportunity to put in some seats from a BRZ or a 4runner?

At 220k miles now so I was looking for a cheap fix. If I can't find a good junkyard seat to use, I might swap the passenger foam in.

I think another problem is the Tacoma left side lean. This, and the driver side foam both tilt my hips to the left, which contribute to the bad posture I will add some washers under the seat posts on the left side to tilt the seat back to level.

I put new fabric on the lower portion of my seat it was easy but annoying Toyota sells the foam and other companies do to the foam it’s just held on with Velcro when
    seat fabric is off.

    One off eBay
One from eBay that someone recommended to me it’s not perfect fit or color but close enough .it will probably fade and match the top part of the seat. Make shure you get a hog ring tool to secure the seat fabric.

I THOUGHT there was a little lean! Thanks for that, I feel vindicated! Not a great solution and I'm not going to try that, but good to know I'm not hallucinating. I might slip in a thin cushion or something there; I'm getting new seat covers next week.
