Dosen't appear to be a bull snake, it would be a juvenile if it is. What state are you inhabiting ?
Many years ago, the neighbor came to me because there was a snake under a bed. I went over and sure enough, good size Texas rat snake, I grabbed it and pulled it out. It turned around and latched onto my arm. Lol,she said its biting you, I moved a foot and she took off with speed. Non venomous are hakuna matatta.

You took that shot? Shoulda grabbed it and released it outside.

Worst case scenario is a scratch-bite but nothing serious. Heck it may have been friendly and just let you handle it.

Normally I wouldn't use the words friendly and snake in the same conversation.

The majority, like 90% of all species are not venomous. So if you got that many around you won't have to worry about
rodents chewing through your electrical on the truck. I'll take snakes anytime over mice and rats and whatnot. Now out
here in Arizona we do have a lot, and I mean a LOT of rattlers running around. 99.9% of the time they turn and run away
when approached, unless they are like the 'Specs' .. a specie called Speckled Rattlesnakes, very chill, they couldn't care
less if you are 3 feet away from them. They come in cool colors too, white/ pink/ blue/ orange... come on out I'll take you
for an easy walk in the desert we'll go hunting them. I usually rely on Road-Runners to help, they will 'hunt' them in packs...
so if in the desert follow the road-runner.

A road runner I played "Wile E. Coyote" to when hiking from a road into South Mountain Park. And a bonus hummingbird thrown in for grins and giggles.

The shit a snake has to deal with every funking day:
Tarantulas, scorpions, centipedes, rats, raccoons, roadrunners, bigger snakes and lizards, eagles and hawks and I won’t even mention that crazy bitch with a shovel in her hand.
I'll usually do what I can to make my brief encounter with a snake an easy one for both us. But then again, there's always that occasional fat assed rattler that blocks a trail and wants to make things exciting.

Is that the Pima Canyon area? I see LOTS of road runners out there - and you don't have to walk far
to spy these chuckwalla's.... I can spy them from quite the distance. Mini dino's they are.

I'd wager these chucks and this desert iguana were all damn near a foot long.

The overflow-drain-access just off Warner-Elliot, a bit north of Equestrian.

I have this lizard photo from National Trail and I will raise you a night-picture of a toad on the trail.

I can't call your toad image - but I'll try to suffice with this guy:

    upload_2025-7-17_16-2-30.png

I know the area and often go up and around to Equestrian and gain access there.
Supposed to be 'private' property but duh. I live within a mile of this place.

Access through that side-trail off Equestrian is technically controlled, but so much access to South Mountain is allowed if you do not p-off the adjacent homeowners.

Gives you easy access to Old Man and Young Man, if you are up to that challenge. When the weather cools again I will hit Old Man trail, but the rise in the first 1/2 mile and that narrow walkway when one is tired/heated is challenging. But heading over to Pima Canyon and going over the saddle puts one in the heart of the park, 1/2 mile from the start of National Trail.

South Mountain Park is arguably the largest in-city park (16 miles east-west, 6 miles north south) in the world and it is so much steep/rocky/dry desert ... I love it.

Looks like a garter snake - should've grabbed it and let it go

One got in the garage just last month, hissed like crazy (even rattled his tail) but once I got it out the glue trap it took off

    Totally harmless

Good thing you did not claim that snake as your pet ... it would reflect badly on you.
