I have had a 2001 Tacoma for several years. It has always run rich and a slightly high idle. After the exhaust manifold was replaced, it now idles slow and stalls. I've decided to tackle the issue. It was pointed out to me that the MAF meter was not plugged into the harness because it doesn't fit.

The MAF on the truck has 5 pins
    IMG_6280 Small.jpg
The harness coming out of the frame has 4 wires and 3 slots (?) for pins.

I bought an older MAF that had 3 pins, and that doesn't fit the 3 slot harness either.

How did this happen? The frame was replaced by the factory on the recall. Wrong wiring harness, is this not the original engine? What MAF do I need to fit the existing harness?
I have the 4x4 5 speed manual with the larger 4 cylinder engine.

If what you say is true.
Then you have the 2.7L 3RZ-FE Engine.

It uses a 5 wire MAF. (As does all 3 of the engines that were available in a 2001 model truck)
Maybe your engine is from an earlier year truck? I'd have to look back in the diagrams and find out.
But the plug you show is not for the MAF.

Also, can you tell me what the wire colors are on that plug?
It's hard to tell by the picture.

Dang, there where is the MAF plug? :-(
Might an error been made with the frame swap, maybe not the original engine?
    More digging...
    hold on wire colors.

    1995-1996 used a 3 wire MAF sensor.
Which is likely the one you bought that doesn't fit.

Heh, have a 95-96 MAF sensor for sale. Never used lol

The 4 wire plug wires are: Red with a white stripe, Green with a black stripe, blue with a white stripe, and white with a black stripe.
    VIN is 5TEWM72N81Z875344
Is there a database where I can check original engine info?

You can make an account on Toyota and add your VIN.
Google " Toyota owners" and it will take you right to the page.
You need an Email address to confirm registration.
    It's free...

I found this pic of my engine. Looks like the harness goes along side the air intake and goes down. I'll go out and dig around that area.
The yellow harness in the lower left is the cruise control I misidentified.

    M1 is the MAF.
It looks like it comes up under the air intake tube.
Maybe the harness fell down along side of the passenger side of the engine?

    Maybe the diagram will help?

Dug around and found it!! The kids (at my vocational school) had replaced the manifold and had unplugged it for some reason and draped it across the other way and tucked it under something. See why I missed it? (conduit running under the coolant valve for the heater)

Did you plug it in? Hopefully it’s idling normal.
