So, long story short. I had a shop supercharge my truck. After break in of the magnuson, the water pump blew up and truck overheated. Got it back after cooling system was fixed and it had a misfire, took it to another shop and they borescoped the 6th cyl and saw it was gouged pretty good. I took it back and am starting to pull the motor.

Plan is to have a shop bore it out and get bigger pistons. Problem is, not sure what size to get it bored to, any ideas?

Also, what else should I do while its apart? Im thinking injectors and cams. Anything else? Will keep posted on disassembly

Can't bore these blocks, so I'd scrap that idea. I'd buy a new short block, fix any valve/cylinder head issues, and run it. If you wanted to ensure better durability with the supercharger, then maybe consider stronger pistons and use different rings with a larger ring end gap to account for the heat expansion added by the SC over stock.

Here’s the poop on the 3.5, page 9 gives the answer about why you can’t bore out the cylinder.

This sounds like an expensive rebuild. How much was the small block?

How much was the short block? Kinda curious what I might get into on a worst case scenario if I SC my engine (116k miles)

Worst case, you'll be in my position. The shop i brought it to didn't offer any sort of "hey while it's apart you may want to change this. Or that" after spending 9k the water pump grenaded, lost all coolant and overheated. Brought it back, they told me engine is fine you need a new water pump, radiator, fan and shroud. 2k later I get it back and its misfiring. And now I'm replacing my engine. Another shop quoted me 10k for the engine swap, 4k for the engine from the dealer and 6k in labor

Better check those cylinder heads carefully for warpage, cracks and valve sealing integrity.

For the shop i brought it to, it was gonna be 10k, plus all the gaskets, fluids, other things that may need to be replaced

Short blocks aren’t that expensive since they are still missing soooo many other parts that either need to be purchased or moved over from previous.

Basically this is where im at. Drained the oil and coolant, pulled the radiator, fan/shroud, supercharger, disconnected most of the wiring (except for behind the block which I can't get to, pulled the serp belt, alternator, dont want to have to recharge the ac so unbolted it (gotta remove it while pulling engine, the studs are too long to pull it out), pulled the starter, disconnected the exhaust. We're about to lower the transmission to get to the last 3 bellhousing bolts. I have a 31" extension and wobble socket to get to those. Hoping to pull the engine today and start tearing it down to the block

The wiring is meant to be dealt with removing the glove box and disconnecting the engine harness from where it ties into the instrument panel harness & ECM, and pull that bundle (everything in the large grommet) out through the firewall and then set it on top of the engine for removal. And also disconnect the 3-4 connectors connecting it to the junction box over on the left side.

and of course remove it from the transfer case and transmission connectors as well as a/f ratio sensors so that you can pull the harness on up with the engine removal.

you can remove it from the engine in the truck but that’s a pain because it goes pretty deep. Easier to remove it from the engine on the stand and then reinstall it to the new engine on the stand as you build up the layers of parts.

Most of the time the studs for the a/c compressor have reverse torx heads on the ends image.jpg so you can remove them.

Well, prior to the supercharger, I had at least $20k in aftermarket parts, so when I dropped another 9 on the shop to supercharge it, kinda hard to not keep it lol
