Hello all, new to the Taco group, recently purchased a used, new to me '23 Taco Pro with 31150 on the odometer, I know the oil is 0W20, but for the members on here, do you guys have a particular brand you that you like or you guys buy what's on sale? So many brands on the market, I had a '14 Tundra that I used Mobil1

    So what say the community????

Penzoil Ultra Platinum is what I use. Project Farm has a vid comparing motor oils and this came second to Amsoil. Honestly though any big name brand will work just be sure to change it every 3-5k miles. That’s the most important thing

I concur with the above post. The brand is moot, but every 5,000 miles is pennies on the dollar in the long run.

I did my first at 3,000.
    Then at 5,000.
Now every 5,000 ( and rotate tires ) religiously. It's a nice round number to remember too.

What ever brand that gets poured in every 5k will work.

    Congrats on the new truck.

Whatever 0W20 is on sale. 2GRs can run on used cooking oil.

Super Tech oil from Wal Mart is pretty good priced oil. I haven't read anything bad about it either from folks online. Everyone seems to say good things about it, even Project Farm on YouTube.

Kirkland, Super Tech, whatever. As long as it's the correct spec it's fine.

Since you are new to this vehicle I’d say your first oil change will be the real learning experience. Well not the oil but the filter replacement. As others have opined most any oil will do. Since you already know it and feel fine with it stick with the Mobil1 and use the Toyota filter - they are cheap and even available at Walmart.

That should start some discussion that is found in many other threads.

I don’t remember the name of the manufacturer but there is a kit with a funnel, oil filter wrench, oil filter drain all together that I would recommend. Also an oil pan drain valve too is nice. Stahlbus is my preference for the oil pan drain for the included very flexible drain hose and the method of attachment of said hose.

I've done the Tundra oil change, its just that this Taco has the skid plate, saw some youtube videos on it, it doesn't need an oil change now as its fresh now, I'm gonna add the fumoto valve to it and I ordered the motovix oil change kit as well

Oil change frequency is just as important… do it every 5k miles despite Toyota saying every 10k. Cheap insurance.

It would be a challenge to find an oil that you couldn’t run. I’d wager that you could use ANY oil available at Walmart, in any grade, and you couldn’t tell the difference unless you crank it at low temps (<10F)

My Stahlbus only needed a deep socket, have no experience with the Fumoto. It looks like an open end would be best for that installation. Hint, for the best visibility above the skid plate turn the wheels in one direction and move your head up into the wheel well.

If treated well (not over torqued) either the plastic or aluminum filter housing's are fine. I initially used both, alternating between the two, having one ready with a new filter after removing the other. I’ve since gone to two aluminum housings as I can see it in the dark much better.

Yes, there is an aluminum option for the filter housing. Amazon for the win....

Clean oil of the correct grade is more important than brand.
Any name brand meeting specifications is fine, OEM filters are well priced at the local dealer.

I prefer to change at 5,000 mile intervals.

Honest question, please no flaming. Just asking. With synthetics claiming 15-20k intervals (I would never go that many miles personally) why are some saying change at 5k? Yeah I understand cheap insurance but besides that.
