Air Condtioning

What's up everyone? I recently bought a 2018 Tacoma TRD Offroad 4x4 and it rocks. I love it. It was a great deal, low miles, but I have noticed that the Air-conditioning isn't as cold as it should be. Can I just get a can of coolant and recharge it or is it a more involved process in need of a Mechanic?

If you don't know anything about A/C and what to look for and what pressures should be I wouldn't recommend messing with it yourself, take it to someone that knows A/C and has the proper equipment to service it.

You need to be able to read both high and low side pressures to charge an A/C system otherwise your risk overcharging it, the best and most accurate way is charging by weight with a machine.

Do not use those "quick charge" cans, most of them contain stop leak which can wreck an A/C system if any moisture or air ever enters the system and while some have a gauge for low side pressure they don't allow you to see high side pressure.

 

Take the temperature from one of the centre vents with a thermometer.

 

I ran a can of DIY refrigerant in the 2014, it helped for a year. Last year, took it to a pro. Cost ~$1,000 to replace the filler valves and recharge. Still going strong. Pro's don't like aftermarket solutions because it may contain stuff that messes up their vacuum pumps and gauges.
