Does anyone have an idea why the seat belt part number is different between the 01 & 02 Tacoma? Hoping to buy the 02 seat belt and use it in my 01.

All of the 01 seat belts appear to be discontinued, but there seems to be a number of them for the 02 - see part numbers below.

    Driver's Side (LH), MT, 3.4L

    73220-04140BO (2001 / MT / 3.4L) wo/SR5?? Not sure it this is of concern.
    73220-04141BO (2002 / MT / 3.4L)

    (BO = charcoal color)

Also, even though I'm using my VIN to check the proper fit, some of the descriptions on the discontinued 01 part number say, "wo/SR5," which mine is. Did the SR5 add or subtract some interior function that could alter the seat belt? Or maybe the 2002 part number is for that 60/40 seat split.

I think it depends on the type of cab in lieu of Reg., Xtracab or DC.

If I’m wrong we will find out soon. lol

Here's the two part numbers and their descriptions. The have the same "Fitting Vehicle Options" (RZN171) and seem to suggest that even the years overlap. Just can't figure out why they would come out with two different part numbers. Typically Toyota has used the same number if it covers a series of years.

Ugh! Olathe Toyota shows different fitment, showing the "73220-04141-B0" belt as only 2004. And what could possibly be in a seat belt that makes it hazardous?

Edit: Possibly the hazardous warning comes from some seat belts either have or used to have a small explosive charge to tighten the seat belt down in a crash. Doh!

The mounting is different from my experience.
Drivers seat belt from my 01 didnt mount the same when I went to bolt into my new 04 cab.
Had to buy a belt specifically for an 04.

Thanks. I also found a short thread on Facebook that seems to indicate that the pyrotechnic pretensioner seat belts started in 1999. Even the post is suggesting that the 2001 part number is the same through 2004, the online parts catalogs don't agree, similar to what you're saying about incompatibility - different part number 'up to' 2001, but then it changes in 2002. A different type of mount after 2001.

OP, when you get all this figured out tell me what part number I need for 2004 DC, bucket seat with oak trim, driver seat?

I’m getting old and don’t have the patience for this.

Ha! Know the feeling. The local dealership said they'd get one shipped to them and I can look at it before buying, so we'll see what they come up with. Who would have thought.

Take note, all of these from 1999 on will likely have the pyrotechnic explosive device built into the seat belt (pretensioner it's called) that cinches the belt in an accident. So from what I gather, the ones in the wrecking yard that have been in an accident become 'locked' during a crash (it's part of the SRS - airbag system) so those are 'spent' from what I can tell and can't be reused.
