Hi all I am new here. I have had Tacoma's for the last 20 years or so. i now have a 2017 that I purchased when I lived in Canada. I now live back in the States and want to import my truck. When i tried I found out that Canadian sold Tacoma's did not come with the TPMS. I have talked to the DOT and an aftermarket dash mounted unit. I am wondering if anyone else has run into this issue. Also is it possible to have Toyota install a legit Toyota unit into my truck computer. My only other option is to take it back to Canada and sell it, which I do not want to do I love this truck
    Thank you for your help

That's interesting I've never heard of Canadian trucks not having TPMS, @Bishop84 you know anything about this?

So you're being told you can't import it because it doesn't have TPMS?

Yes that is correct. I got all the paperwork needed and when I sent it to the DOT i was told that due to the truck not having the TPMS it was not eligible. Also the after market ones will not cut it.

Manual and some base models didn’t have it.

we see this issue with rav 4 they don’t have tpms and it can’t be enabled easily.

Thank you all. So Bishop84, when you enable the TPMS, first where can this be done and also does it then conform with the US standards do you know?

Interesting, I always thought Canada had pretty much the same safety standards as the US. Here TPMS has been around since the early 2000s and been required on all new cars and light trucks since around 09, granted half the people don't fix it when it breaks but it has to be there.

Wonder if it would be as simple as adding/programming the TPMS receiver and sensors or is it more to it than that?

It is very strange I also thought the standards were similar. The craziest part is my truck was built in Texas. I have reached out to a few sources about having it added without much help. This is why i posted this, I was sure someone else has had this issue.

We've never seen it successfully activated. Most vehicles are sold or they find some shop in montana that is willing to accept the aftermarket tpms.
