I’m alive and still kicking. Hoping for a good season. Got nothing to compare to buckhuntin-tacoma standards but a few decent NC bucks showing up

Dennis this isn’t a sarcastic question..

Do yall have shitty small rack deer out there or are the genetics so good that the shitty deer are the equivalent of good shooters the rest of the country sees?

I’ve also never had the pleasure of hunting a legitimate well managed area before either. So maybe it’s good genetics and ethical practices that just puts you leagues ahead of us

I cant answer for him but here there are some absolute hammers! The little ones get pushed out by big boys and here everyone shoots whatever... ive seen pics from around here locally and theres some brutes! Only seen the one big guy once on my game cam. Ill see younger ones and then they disappear around hunting season. Either shot or pushed elsewhere.

Yes, we do have some shitty racked bucks. In my opinion though, the Midwest has a good recipe for quality bucks. We have large wood lots, plenty of waterways, ponds and lakes and massive amounts of agricultural providing endless amounts of food and nutrients. Besides all of the agricultural crops, most hunters are planting green plots. I also think we have overall good genetics in the Midwest. I do realize that all areas are not the same, the biggest factor to producing big bucks in our area is age. It helps if your neighbors have the same goals as you but not all are on board. I don’t care what anybody else shoots as long as the meat doesn’t get wasted. The only thing that pisses me off is the guy who shoots the first 1-2 year old buck they see and the whines around about not seeing a big buck.

We do get some decent bucks in the central part of NC but coastal and mountain bucks leave something to be desired lol
