I couldn’t find dimensions for sound deadening 3rd gens online anywhere - here are the ones I used.

I found two packs of 36 ft.² of large 80 mil butyl rubber sound deadening on Amazon warehouse/resale (open box returns) for half off, so I figured I would work on a project. I used almost all (maybe 2 ft.² left over) on the rear wall and all 4 doors of my 3rd gen taco. Not sure what I’m going to do with the second box, maybe underneath the carpet or something.

Anyway, I couldn’t find any guides online that showed what dimensions the mats for the layer that attaches to the interior door skin should be. I used newspaper to figure out what would fit and then made stencils out of them. For the most part, these sizes should be accurate, although I ended up filling in some holes here and there. I also ended up cutting the very long strips vertically down the middle due to how difficult it is to stick it inside of the door given the limited area to work in. Also, I recommend getting a pad to kneel on and some old flattened boxes to use to cut on top of.

Anyway, hope this helps someone. Yesterday (when I did this project) was a LONG day. I was actually smoking a brisket at the same time and my smoker was engulfed in flames. To the point that the fire department came out (see the last picture). Thankfully, I was wrapping the brisket in butcher paper at the time so it was saved from a fiery death. Yeah, it’s been an interesting weekend.

Wow that’s some serious dedication to sound deadening, how did that work out for you?

it ended up being more dedicated than I originally thought… I did under the carpet as well today, which involved gutting the truck. Overall, it was a 3 to 4 dB reduction and noise, so around 25%. Not a huge amount, but noticeable.
