Hoping someone here can help me save a trip to the dealer (and a couple hundred dollars). I've been getting this pre-collision system malfunction error on my 2022 TRD Sport for about a week now. I'd gotten it in the past and simply cleaning the toyota logo on the grill and/or the windshield in front of the rearview mirror has always fixed it. I've done some searching and tried disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes, disconnecting the battery and touching the + and - leads together for 15 seconds to reset the computer with no luck. I've also checked the IGN2 fuse under the dash which looks good to me. The truck is completely stock (no aftermarket grill). I took a look at the connector behind the toyota logo and all looks good. Of course my truck is at 46k miles so outside of the three year 36k warranty period. Does anyone have further troubleshooting tips beyond what I've already tried? A search of the forum brings up mostly things I've already done. Thanks all for your help.

You have scanner to check for codes? What did you use to clean the Toyota logo on grille? Maybe hit something with your Tacoma, I don’t know.

No scanner. I've tried water and then windex.

If you put windex on sensor, you probraly killed the front sensor. Supposely only on windshield.

I get that issue in strong rain and freezing temps. My system always comes back on eventually I try to pay extra special attention when my baby sensor stops working until it goes back on. I suggest you do the same :D

Poppycock, the sensor is buried underneath the Toyota logo - no chemical damage. I've even painted over my Toyota logo and all is fine. Other people put stickers over the logo. The sensor itself is most likely made out of PA66 with a high glass fiber content - tough stuff.

The OP might like to check to see if there is anything between the logo and sensor that would block radar waves. The logo can be removed with a few clips and one screw, if he chooses, it's a bit difficult without removing the sensor, but you can do that too with the removal of a screw or two and some clips IIRC. Check the rigidity of the grill sensor for possible movement. Check for glass pits in the windshield at the camera. If you take the sensor out, look inside the connectors (male & female) for green mold.

Unplug both the camera connector and reseat, as well as the grill radar sensor connector. Green mold?

A misalignment of either the sensor in the grill or the camera on the windshield is a possibility.

It is not clear to me if this problem has run its course of being intermittent and is now permanent. If it is still intermittent, I'd like to know does the system work upon starting to drive and then fails within a few miles or minutes.

Expecting this to only take "a couple hundred dollars" at the dealer is Tom foolery.

Here is a picture from another thread of what is behind the Logo.

This is some top tier advice - thank you! I will start with removing the cover and checking for obstructions. I did notice there were only a couple of screws on the sensor but didn’t want to mess with it too much as I’m unaware how sensitive the calibration is to change. Maybe I’ll remove it all together and check for damage to the wiring harness as well and report back.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
I'd still stop by AutoZone or somewhere else to get it scanned just so you know what you're playing with in terms of codes. If you do need and get a new sensor, they do need to get programmed.

    Don’t forget the glass pits.

I’ve had my grill sensor removed several times with no problems. You might find it easier to remove the complete grill - all it takes is to remove 2 10mm hex screws and 2 push pins. The electrical connections too. It goes back so easily too.

A scan of course would be helpful too, as @Smacky2020 mentions, just don’t know if an auto parts store would have a scanner good enough to get the Toyota specific codes. So don’t get confused when the scanner says there are no codes and you know there should be.
