Wanted a Subaru Baja wehen I started my journey to a Tacoma. I was looking for the smallest 4 door truck. Coming from Hondas, I wanted that. Ridgeline got terrible gas mileage and the put the spare where? Under the bed floor!

I was shooting (photography) surfing on the Outer Banks back in 2019 out in the water. I got stuck in a rip current. It was was definitely a no exaggeration NDE. And crazy enough, I KNEW to swim parallel to the shore but didn't at the time, until after I got pretty tired. But it's scary because you're swimming in and not getting closer. Then I got pitted and went under, bounced off the bottom - and the one moment that wasn't scary was when I was under, I didn't panic, came to the surface. Yeah. The Outer Banks is known for having washing machine like rip currents, they are much stronger than you are. I don't care if you're hulk or you use a Fleshlight 15x a day, you ain't swimming in.

Don’t forget ticks and Lyme disease . I have pulled 5 ticks off me in June and July . During turkey season in May never get them because my clothes are treated with permethrin.

    Maybe 1991 for me?
    Whenever I moved to Tampa
Got high speed internet [for real, test market, cable modem] + cable TV

I remember the moving dudes, moving shit in
I was watching LL Cool J "Mama Gonna Knock You Out" video on MTV
[I never had cable before so this was like -whoa-]
The moving dudes were like, your mama let you watch that stuff
I was like my mom DGAF
He just looked at me, probably thinking crazy white people

My parents DGAF about censoring anything - my mom would just ring in with some moral bullshit [that's bad] once 'n awhile

I got caught in a few as a kid @ Emerald Isle - learned the parallel to shore thing fast
Alternatively, you can get washed out to the sandbar, get out there and walk parallel a bit and then swim back

One time we were swimming in a hurricane - the current was ripping us downshore a block every few minutes
We'd get out and run back past the house, hop back in and get ripped downshore again

The only one that ever got me/scared me was a rogue large wave
I went to dive under it and somehow that fucker grabbed my ankle - ripped me under, across a bed of shells and washed me up on shore coughing like crazy

Those waves/currents will throw you like a rag doll and then some

That's insane. I mean I get the lure of playing in massive waves, esp during hurricane season but it can be a deadly game. The Outer Banks is pretty sharky too. They love hanging around that area. I need to get back to the beach it's been too long.

I've been to EI once too. Did like it out there a bit.

I would go every summer as a kid - hurricane or not I was swimming, non-stop
My dad was a beach lifeguard for awhile, he never said no or get out

We saw sharks every now and again but it wasn't an actual issue
If we got caught in a school of bait fish, we'd swim out of it but otherwise

    :notsure:

I wanna go back but in the winter, when it is super quiet and chill

I def don't mind the OBX in winter. September and October are perfect. I love the outdoor showers out there. My house will HAVE to have an outdoor shower once I find it.

    Rodanthe is my favorite spot.

One of my favorite concerts… Music for the Masses at a hillside venue in Maryland the name eludes me right now… evening in wonderful weather under the stars with all their lightshow (not so much video like everyone does now).

    Merriwether Post?
