The AC compressor it down on the driver side of the engine. You can have someone turn the AC on and off as the trucks running while you look at the pulley. You should see the front part (clutch) stay still and then start spinning once the AC is turned on. There can still be issues but that's a free little check you can do.

+1 on the likelihood of being the fan clutch. Had to switch mine out on my Ranger. I don't have stats, but my PERSONAL suspicion is that it's the most likely issue most times in such circumstance. Once replaced, cooling was great. Caveat being the fan clutch is not the only thing that could cause the issue as others have stated.

The viscous fluid in fan clutches can give out over time and cause the fan to slip more (ie. spin slower) reducing airflow through the radiator and condenser. I know some people try to replace the fluid, but to me, the price of a new fan clutch compared to the possibility that it wouldn't work or work for long, it just makes sense to just replace.

Not sure, I had it serviced 2 years in a row and it made no difference so I knew something had to be wrong. Noticed nothing ever kicks on when not moving or anytime really.

When you state you had it serviced 2 years in a row, is that an a/c service (and not the fan clutch)? I can imagine some cheesy shops will just check/adjust refrigerant and/or operation of ac system (only) without checking for adequate cooling from the fan (ie. measuring temperature output at the vents).

Supposedly freon was added and I had all belts replaced last year. The thing cools fine like in the morning when its not so hot but by lunch it can't cool off anything until its a long highway trip at a steady speed.

My blower motor is making a rattling sound when I put the A/C switch on the next to the high setting. I've been trying to find an OEM replacement but I can't find it. Every time I go to a dealer website it says it's unavailable. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get an OEM AC blower motor. Thanks

Looks like they changed the part number, try 8710304044.

Has anyone tried a "name brand" replacement like TYC or Four Seasons (versus an alphabet soup brand from Amazon)?

I went with a continental from
Rockauto for my 21 4Runner, PM9351. I figured if the stock on was already making noise in so few years I’d try a better aftermarket one. Couldn’t get it installed, the bolt spacing was off

    Ended up getting a OEM.

They typically work but they may or may not last very long.

Interesting that it only shows up on the Amazon..., did you get it from a dealer?

Ya grabbed it from my local dealer. I have read elsewhere the OEM is now made in china. I was wondering if it might cross reference with a (cheaper) brand that provides the OEM part.

Wouldn't surprise me, alot of OEM stuff has gone to china manufacturing just like everything else has.

Not sure, that number on the blower doesn't appear to be a toyota part number. All the toyota blower motor part numbers I can find for a 2nd gen tacoma start with 87103

The box had all of the OEM number info and surprise, china inside! I'll double check if there are any other markings. It'd be nice if TYC or something was the same part.

Idk but sometimes numbers on the actual parts are engineering/casting numbers or internal part numbers and date codes instead of manufacturer part numbers.

ChatGPT referenced PP-TD20 (another marking on the unit) to other Toyota parts made by Denso but didn't provide a lot of evidence. I couldn't find a Denso brand part for the Tacoma though.
