too be honest, after several months I’m not sure the juice is worth the squeeze? Caught a little oil maybe 1/2 cup, but mostly water when it was cold. 23,000 miles so the engine is certainly broke in.

How many miles do you empty out the can and clean it ?

 

When it was below zero weekly! Damn thing was filling quick! Now about every 3k miles, maybe 1/2 teaspoon of oil.

 

Yeah I have the JBL oil catch on my 3rd gen with the can extension. Drain and clean every 3k

 

Could you just vent the crankcase to atmosphere with a protective filter to prevent bug/dust ingress? Or will that trip a pressure sensor or something to throw a code?

I don't want oil vapor combusting in my cylinders, but I also don't want another maintenance item (emptying the catch can).

 

It'll stink like gas and oil every time you drive, but yes, you can. It'll also dirty up your engine bay; I don't think the filter will catch all of the oil and gas blow by.

 

I installed one for my gen2; it removes about ±5 oz. of dirty oil on every oil change duration didn’t cause any issues.

 

Naturally Aspirated vs. Forced Induction oil bypass and consumption are different beasts. Results on second and third generations are completely invalid compared to what fourth generation requirements are.

 

Well yeah, forced induction will have higher blow by and crank pressure. Generally, catch cans were popular for forced induction engines, not just for the increase blow-by but to protect the turbo/super charger from the oily waste.

PCB's must be hooked up to the intake prior to the forced induction or the manifold pressure can cause increased crank pressure.
