What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

What method did you use to get to it?

 

Couple months ago I installed a pair of CVJ shafts. The driver side popped out in less than 5 mins, the passenger side took almost an hour. Just gotta find that sweet spot.

 

The filter itself? I purchased a new assembly from Toyota, you can't just replace the piece that contains the filter as it is sold with the complete assembled unit.

 

I mean, did you take the bed off of the truck, or drop the tank from underneath?

 

Installed my Auxbeam to replace my two old switches for my leds fore and aft.

Mounted the box on top of the engine fuse box with double sided Velcro until I can figure out a better location.

the Blue sea aux fuse block means I need to do some Tetris.

Stereo runs my Subwoofer Amp.

 

Believe it or not, neither. I went through the top. I’ve got a bad back, so I didn’t want to deal with dropping the tank or lifting the bed and working in a cramped space. Instead, I cut a small section of the fiberglass bed out and used that cut piece to make a mold. I'm currently using it to build a fiberglass patch panel that’s on the workbench now. Once it’s done, I’ll paint it with bed liner and install it using rivnuts to create a makeshift fuel pump access cover.

I never carry anything in the bed, and I don’t plan on ever selling the truck, so for my situation, this was a no-brainer.

I bought this for my 2007 Tacoma. Haven’t installed it yet. I hope they eventually release switches for the rest of the doors like how they offer for the 2012-2015 Tacomas.

Have you reinstalled the hitch plug on your bumper. My trucks in the shop but asked them to reinstall the plug for me but they said the mount doesn’t look like it’s for my truck and maybe for a 3rd gen plug. I think they installed the wrong mount for my 2nd gen bumper. I texted Joe to see if he can probably install it for me. Waiting to hear back.

 

At the time I did the conversion that wasnt out yet. I did not know that it was released my friend wanted them but thats cool. I guess you dont have to do all my work for auto windows lol.

 

Where did you get the mirrors?

Tim, check out Harbor Freight. I have one that attaches to a breaker bar. Both my fronts have a torn cv boot. First one I noticed after the mod day at James house. The second one hasn't torn yet but is about to. Truck has been parked since that day. I have new Toyota boots and grease for it. My restrictions from heart surgery has kept from doing any wrenching. The Mazda Tribute has been my mode of transportation.

Well dang it. I'm sure you've tried this but have you tried spinning the CV around and around trying to hit it from different sides? Sometimes if you can find the position where the c-clip is at the perfect angle it pops out easier

 

Jesus dude. I dont hate that at all.... im dreading having to replace my pump. Maybe make a metal plate with a hatch? Hell. Just a quick cut and you'd save so much time

 

Are you spinning the shaft in between your hitting/prying.? The little clip on the end needs to be in just the right spot. I usually do about 1/8 trun between hitting/prying.

 

Yes, but I turn like a 1/4 turn. There is so much in/out play and up/down play that I feel like none of my hits shock it enough. I have been hammering in chisels to hold the axle in place while I do some hammering. I’ll turn it less now. Maybe 1 degree at a time.
My damn shoulder is giving up on me.

 

it makes more sense with Karl's back problems, but if you're physically capable. dropping the tank is super easy. obviously easier with less fuel in it, but all it is, is two bolts (one per tank strap) and a clamp on the filler neck. obviously everything takes longer the first time, but if you ever have to do it a second time, its a 5 minute job to get the tank onto the ground.

hardest part of the fuel pump replacement in my opinion is getting the big threaded ring around the pump loosened. mine had a bunch of sand in it, so i had to use a strap wrench to turn it, which would be easier on the ground than with a hole in the bed.

just some food for thought....

 

I mean, its one of the more expensive jobs I've had quoted to do. I only do that to know how much money I've saving.

 

same, I kept the 2012-2015 version bookmarked on my computer until I wanted to tackle repinning the harness. Then noticed they released this version.
