You would be amazed on how many chargers are out there that are hidden in plain sight. You may not know they are there but every modern EV does and will tell the driver they must charge and route them to it. Also a lot of the AAA trucks are running EV services now.

Unless you're living off-grid, where is it common for houses not to have 240V service at the panel? and while not ideal, I believe all current EVs can charge (slowly) from 120V.

As for charger availability, they're becoming surprisingly common. See ChargeFinder - Charging stations for electric cars (EV)

Now there can be challenges such as chargers being out of service and so on, so contingency planning is certainly more important.

2 chargers on 80 proved my point compared to gas stations at like every exit. Your sitting there for hours waiting to charge.

Per mile, I’d bet a dedicated generator makes less emissions than an ICE vehicle. Generators can be optimized like crazy

You'd have to REALLY SUCK at planning to manage to get stuck between those two chargers that are 32 miles apart.

If they dumped the iso seats in the Pro I would consider moving to a 4th gen. But right now really enjoying the wife's GX550, wish Lexus made a truck or the Tundra wasnt so cheap feeling and riddled still with issues.

Agreed on the "noting". Yep, the 4th Gen debut looked very much delayed vs "normal" time frame of year for a new gen model release- is that schedule/hiccups still echoing? Or Toyota has now had time/sincere motivation to get it together and get back to a "normal" - early Fall/late Summer new model yr? Cynically I doubt it will be the latter, re: 2026 "toss up".

    Sure, let's discuss facts.

Where are those houses without 240V service? What % of homes do they represent? (and why would the owner of such buy an EV?)

Yes, there are places where an EV owner needs to be careful in their planning due to fewer EV chargers. A problem that is becoming less and less common as time goes by. And per below while fastchargers are increasingly common along major highways, they're less so as you get off the beaten path and you might be cooling your heels for longer than you wished.

    On the other hand...

It'd be interesting to see an time/motion analysis of typical EV charging at home vs ICE refueling. While theoretically it could be the same time/motion to charge the EV once per 300 miles, it seems many plug in every day at home so they're at full charge the next day. Minor matter but one of curiosity. :)

Charging cost away from home is another interesting thing - looking at the Chargefinder site, most of the commercial chargers seem to be priced at 3x my home electricity cost per kwh, seeing a lot of $0.48 per kWh. To take the Rivian R1T that google claims uses about 36kWh/100miles, the equivalent cost ICE would need only a bit over 16mpg at $2.80/gal -- so need to charge at home to realize lower cost per mile with EV.

What one does with those facts is up to their own situation. I'm not expecting to buy a plug-in EV anytime soon.

Sure, depending on vehicle and battery capacity. And your ability to find an available 350kW or similar charger.

If there's just 50-60kW chargers you'll be sitting there a while longer, and/or making a 2nd charging stop a ways further down the road.

If Toyota offered a Tacoma EV today I wouldn't buy it, but I figure within five years the charger network will be where I would feel comfortable with an EV and would buy. If they had offered a PHEV Tacoma when I bought this year, I would have bought it and I would have paid the 10K premium (assuming it came with the significant power increase the other Prime PHEVs have).

You bought a GX550? I’m jealous. You need to post a couple of pics.

Yep the urgent care owner I’m an NP at part time knows the GM here so I didn’t even have to play over MSRP or wait list games. 2025 Premium Plus every option including captains chairs in eminent white and dapple gray. Love it.

Can't recall seeing a 550 in white most the ones I see are gray and sometimes green all dark colors. The GX looks good in white do they have any brown, tan, or champagne colors? I think the Over Trail has quick sand like color. For some reason I think people are trading in their Teslas for the GX 550.

Never needed an app to find a gas station.

Isn't the Tundra Toyota's flagship vehicle? It's a shame Toyota can't do better with their US built fullsize pick up. Most people seem happy with their Tundra. I just can't find a reason to really like it and that was before any of the issues people have experienced with them.
