In the end the lower shock mount lands where it lands. Yes, I highly recommend taking the leaf pack apart like we discussed. It's the only way to set full bump and maximize travel.

This post was helpfull when I did mine

I have read that post a ton and exactly how I planned, just need the confidence to execute. More or less just get in there and make it happen. Keep getting in my own head and "waiting" for the right time to start. Unfortunately I'll have to wait till end August.. We leave for a big Italy trip on the 12th-27th. After that there is No excuses!

Finished the welding this morning. All the frame and axle brackets are done! Also got some paint on a few places. Lots to do still....

Hoping to get the rest of the painting done tomorrow morning.

    Things left to do:
    • Finish painting
    • Get shocks charged with nitrogen and install springs
    • Build exhaust from mid-pipe back
    • Put bed back on
    • Modify fuel filler tube to go over shock tower
    • Modify sliders
    • Modify rear bumper to clear tires

Yes, kit is from Martec. It's a pretty well thought out kit and the install is straightforward.

How close to the frame are you on up-travel? Looking at their kit it looks like it has a ton of down travel.

At where I'm figuring ride height will be there is about 5" to 5.5" of shock shaft showing. So yes, there is more down travel then up. As far as uptravel limitation the upper link is about 1/4" from hitting a frame crossmember at full bump.

Finished up painting the frame and trailing armstoday. I still have to do the axle, but wanted to weld on brake line retaining tabs first. Found out the stock hardlines won't work. So add make new axle brake lines to the to-do list.

Stock brake lines go right over the bump stop strike plates. So I'll make some new ones lines on both ends.

I could probably make it work but I've come this far. What's another $15 for brake line.

Todays project. Figured long as the axle was out might as well truss it. Used the truss kit form Zona Motorsports. Fitment wasn't too bad had to do some grinding to get the pieces to fit a little better. Didn't turn out too bad.

    • Exhaust
    • Put bed back on
    • Modify gas tank fill neck
    • Install limit straps
    • Install drive shaft
    • Install rear brakes
    • Make shock reservoir mounts
    • Fabricate Shock tower stiffener bar
    • Probably something else I'm missing.....

    Got one slider modified today.

Had to cut back the frame plate and one of the cross tubes to make room for the lower link mount. This left over 3' of unsupported slider at the rear. One hit there and it'd bend it right into the body.

    20250824_084054.jpg

So I made another support bracket using the rivet holes from the front leaf spring hanger that is no longer used. Used some 2" square tube for the stringer to the main slider tube. And viola rigid as a teen on gas station boner pills.

MVP tool of the day was the portaband mounted on a SWAG Offroad Table. Great for cutting out little bits for brackets.

Looks great Jason. When does it get the tryout? Is that still the original rear axle?

I'm hopeing to have it done by the end of September. It starts getting nice in October for wheeling and camping.

Yes, it's the stock 8.75" rear. I'll run it until it starts complaining. Then I'll go 9" or Dana 60.
