Now that I've got the Elan in better condition I've been racking up some tankfuls of high test in it. It's a lot of fun. When Colin Chapman designed the car he meant it to be strictly a roadgoing machine and so he gave it a lot of suspension travel and other elements meant for comfort on the byways. Of course, being a Lotus, people immediately started racing them. So Chapman finally relented and released a race-only version of the car, the 26R.

Reminds me of a GTO I saw at a wrecking yard in '69/70. Black on black and not a scratch on it... except the roof was pancaked six inches from the dash and rear shelf. I looked at the Odo and it had 500 miles and change on it. Someone broke in their new car properly and decided it was time to romp on it. Oops...

At the time, it was the lowest (known) static suspension SRT8 on the planet and we built it in the gutter in front of my old house. Elvis came to me and wanted -10 camber. This was unheard of at the time and the suspension was all MBZ garbage bin. We managed -5+ and did some serious fender work and bottomed out the coilovers. Dude couldn't make it into 7-11 without getting high centered and could not even park in his own driveway. Mission accomplished. Then he started StanceNation. Now he's very well off indeed. Good times.
