gotcha. The automatic might be a bit gutless with the access cab 4x4 then.

Anyone who says the "real truck" line, I just tell em "why did you settle on a small v-6 then"...."why not go for a big ol 460 ford v-8 or a diesel" .

Anyone talking about what a "real truck" is down on others is ...1) an idiot who bought their limited knowledge and is posing as a beginer in truck knowledge ... 2)insecure , scared to buy a 4 cyl , they buy the v-6, then bray about their epic background in trucks ... but its really limited to a truck brochure from toyota. fortunately , most v-6 owners arent of those 2 types.I carry a CDL still , owned 3 different v-8s an I6 ford, a v-6 a diesel and now this I4, a truck isnt measured by its h.p. , usually its ability to perform its assigned tasks, yea mud boggin trucks need hp ....an exception.

This is simple really , jeeps in ww2 were often called 1/4 tons , theres 1/2 tons,1 tons etc...... buy the one that suits your needs. This isnt hard either , do some research as far as capacities/limits. To that end since I dont tow even a 1 ton truck or a v-6 cant ...out 75mph me...just accelerate to there faster.

"real truck" commenters talking about "no balls"... well niether do they.

Ya, I test drove it and it was a little slower then the 5 speed and easily noticable. But to be honest, after testing every combination 10-15 times, the 2.7 I4 5 speed is not much slower then the V6 auto. Those were the two combos I liked so I went 2.7

It all depends on the purpose of the vehicle and the driver....if you are towing a boat or racing another truck then obviously a v6 would be better. Other than that there really isn't much of a difference IMO especially when it comes to offroad.

I get a little heat from the V-6 Ford guys. I think it's mostly MPG jealousy. I think they all realize that regardless of the engine or trim, the Taco will drag them through the dirt like a Tonka truck.
I did a lot of research and drove a lot of trucks before I bought the I-4. Nothing compares with the MPG on a 4X4. And the power is on par with the I-6 Fords that I grew up driving. There's not much that it can't do.

Folks seem to neglect how a machine is geared...most,only see HP as a viable means...how sad AND a major error in "judgement".

HP is certainly the more effective means, but they are both important. I don't care how you gear it-My bicycle will never go as fast as my truck and my truck will never go as fast as any super car.
Not to mention the trade off between acceleration and top end rpms that you run into with gearing...

Plus there is a difference between # of cylinder and HP....

Seems to me the whole argument could be resolved with a Ruler.
Someone wants a pissing match over Cyl count, challenge them to Measure-Off.
Only the inadequate need to belittle others over things that are essentially meaningless.
BTW, I had 3 of the cylinders removed from my I4...:p

If someone wants to pay for me to buy and feed a 427BB complete with Mooneyham blower, I'll drive one all day. Until then, they can eat me.

    I pay, I decide...

the 2.7 I4 2TR is the only engine available for the regular cab...

only real trucks come with two doors

so that would make only regular cab tacoma's real trucks...

so therefore the only real tacoma comes with a 4-cyl

therefore why should anyone care about V6 tacomas?

I guess it would bug you if you wanted a V6 and couldn't get it. I opted for adequate power and better gas mileage.
